Photonkenstein's Monsters - it's ALIVE!!!

For those who haven't been following - on a tinkering whim, I decided to try shoehorning a 70W LED array with a parallel lens setup into my Photon, since I wasn't happy with how long it was taking to print Siraya Blu (~45sec on time per 0.05 layer). *Edit* Many people are pointing out that this is excessively long. I tested twice with the Photonsters test script to find this. I'm going to test with some other resins to see if I got a bad batch of Blu.

I finally turned it on last night... and thought I'd broken it. No display on the touch panel. Taken it back apart, I thought I'd messed up the FFC. Fortunately, I had an insight this morning and realized I'd just plugged it in upside down :D

So with that resolved, it has now completed its first print! And by print, I mean a Photonsters calibration test, since there obviously is no spreadsheet in creation that would tell me what numbers this abomination needs. For reference, it looks like I can do Blu in 14-16 second layers now instead of 45. Given that this LED array is specced as roughly 3x as powerful as the stock one, this is right on target!

While it's operational, it's nowhere near finished. There are three main problems remaining. First, I'm getting some patterning on the display from the lenses. The lens array is currently only about 10mm from the bottom of the screen. Fortunately, there's still a lot of space to work with in that direction - I could move it out another 50mm or so and still have room for the array cooling fan. That will ideally even out the array pattern.

Second, UV leakage. As seen in the last picture, my current mounting solution isn't 100% sealed, and enough light is leaking into the print chamber through gaps in the casing that, while I don't think they'd cause major problems, I would prefer to fix.

Finally, packaging. The heat sink for the array and the touch LCD currently wants to occupy some of the same space, so as a stopgap, I rerouted the FFC out the side (through the hole left by removing the left handle) and taped it to the side of the printer. While this works, it is obviously not ideal. Fortunately, I think the solution to problem #1 will also help this - by moving the entire thing up, I can reshape the mount to add clearance.

Is there anyplace to order the ribbon cable between the motherboard and the touchscreen? In my tinkering I managed to damage mine, and the printer isn't very useful if you can't control it!

Some progress on Photonkenstein's Monster, my attempt to shoehorn a 70W parallel lens LED array into my Photon, because who doesn't like printing 3x as fast :D

It looks like it will all barely fit. I need to tweak the array mount to move it back and left (from the vantage of the picture) about 5mm, to clear the front LCD (the cover just barely doesn't close) and give a bit more clearance around the MB. That will almost have it touching the handle and Z motor, and is pretty much as far back as it can be tucked. The array is a bit bigger than the printable area on the Photon so I'll still have full coverage. I'd also honestly like to desolder the headers on the MB and reattach them to the back (to make them more accessible, as you currently need to remove the LED module and loosen the MB mount to get to them), but that's probably going a step too far!

Going to need to figure out how to mount the LED driver, 24V Boost Converter, and the MOSFET switch. Electrically it works, and there's space in the back corner, just need to figure out where to attach it. Maybe make a box that sticks out where the back panel attaches.

The power supply will just get strapped to the back of the Photon with velcro - it was meant to be enough power to run the printer and a PTC heater, so it will eliminate the brick once I'm satisfied it works.

Anyone here try swapping their Photon's LED chip for an LED array? I know it's not a drop in replacement (you'd need a different power supply and a driver board), but the Photon's lack of uniformity and curing power is one of its biggest weaknesses, and it seems that would be an effective fix, as the possible expense of reduced LCD lifespan from heating (although I was also thinking of modding in a cooling blower fan between the array and the screen when I made the adapter).

I am attempting to print and assemble this model: https://www.gambody.com/3d-models/mechwarrior-bobcat So the various parts of the model attach via ball joint so that the model can be posed. Problem is, the joints break every time I try to assemble it - specifically, the tines of the cup part of the joint. Has anyone successfully printed and assembled it? You can see the joints in this picture: https://www.gambody.com/image/93/2501_980x500.png For reference, I've tried printing it in Anycubic Blue, Anycubic White, Elegoo Grey, a 50/50 mix of Elegoo Grey and Siraya Blu, and I'm currently trying to print it in straight Blu. Would something like a mix of Tenacious and Blu add enough flexibility to the joint to assemble? If so, any recommended ratios? Haven't tried the Tenacious yet because of a lack of heater, but the last of my heater parts showed up today, so I'm ready to give it a try! 翻譯年糕

So I've seen people mess with chamber heaters for the Photon. Anyone try to build a heater specifically for the resin vat, given that it's what needs the heat? You'd need a connector for removing the vat, but I'd think you could do a few wraps of nichrome around the outside of the vat and then drill/tap an M3 stud thermistor into the aluminum perimeter to get extremely targeted heating for much lower power.
