First prints with out of the box settings worked great! I just nipped the supports off the Tracer; needs a better cleaning but pretty great detail given how tiny it is!

I received my printer on Wednesday and am blown away by the quality. Thank you to everyone who helped me choose the printer and who posted advice on setting up the print station for air ventilation as well as safe cleaning of the print. I've taken advice from people here and there and so far it's worked really well. I'm posting a picture to hopefully give others some ideas of how they might set things up and what they can do with this printer. Thanks again and good printing!

How would you make supports for this?

I'm still waiting on the part to fix my printer, but in the meantime I'm prepping models for when it does work. This little guy is important to my D&D campaign, so I tried to support it, and I'm not pleased with the results (images in the comments).

I loaded it up into meshmixer, rocked it back 15°, then in overhand analysis, put it on the SLA/DLP Printer preset, and hit generate support. I then exported it to STL, and opened in Photon slicer.

I'm displeased with the results for two reason:

1. There are just so many supports! The base is flat, this would be a no-brainer in FDM, but because it has to be off the plate on SLA, there's a dense cluster beneath the base, and I'm having trouble removing so many. Plus, the spines on the back of the neck, and the chest and back scales *still* have some unsupported overhang!

2. In the past when I've printed stuff from meshmixer, the supports haven't actually made contact with the model, and so the supports print beautifully, and a flat profile of the actual model is left in the vat! Looking closed, it appears there are actually small gaps between the supports and the model, so it's printing detached.

So my question is, how would you go about building supports and slicing this model for print? Do you have a special setting you like to tweak to get the most out of your Photon? For supports, do you use meshmixer, just the Photon Slicer, or something else? Thanks!

It's a little thing, but I found what I think is the perfect thing for an alcohol vat so I am sharing -

The resin vat and bed fit perfectly with just enough room to slosh the vat around, tight fitting leak proof lid, and they cost $2 for 2 of them!
