Ok so I was printing this last night. Mono Rap Clear .05, 11, 1, 60 and 5 settings directly on the build plate. 10 hours and I checked this morning to find a small portion of the bottom stuck to the FEP sheet. The bottom is hollow and it has drain holes. Any advice to get this to print? Maybe a re-level? Flint Read

I was debating on Moai or Photon and I found this on the blog this morning. Sorry itis long, but it is a good read. Photon wins.

"I looked at both machines carefully. Cost was not a real big factor because I was buying it for work. Operating costs and maintenance were actually more of a concern.

Technically, the Moai should not be able to print higher detail because it has a 70 micron laser spot size vs. a 47 micron pixel size for the Photon. However, the Moai laser spot moves in a smooth line and therefore does not produce stair-stepping n the X-Y plane. In practice, I think it is probably hard to see the difference in quality unless you look under a magnifier.

The most critical difference between the two is probably the vat design. The Moai uses an acrylic vat with a coating of PDMS on the bottom. The Photon uses a piece of FEP film that is stretched over the vat frame like a drumhead. The FEP film is less expensive to replace than replacing the entire vat of the Moai. (although some people are re-coating the acrylic vats themselves with success). Replacing the FEP film is easier than recoating a vat. Most people just buy new vats for $40 to $50 each. The replacement film for the Photon cost just a few dollars. Although the FEP film seems like it would be a lot more fragile, it can actually last quite awhile if you treat it carefully.

Resin costs should really be quite similar. Both use 405nm resin, although the Photon needs a quick curing resin. The AnyCubic resin for the Photon is now available, but it's more expensive than other alternatives that work just about as well. Wanhoa D7 resin can be used, as well as Monocure 3D rapid. Both are around $70 to $90 per liter. I think resin costs for the Moai are similar."

Do we have settings for things like retraction speeds and lift heights? I'm seeing on the Wanhao group that somewhere in their software these can be set to different values to help with the resin pooling/warping on the build plate side of prints, and around supports.

Supposedly making the movement faster and lift heights higher reduces the extra thickness and warping considerably.

Ok super excited. Just ordered my Photon. Question I have is what else do I need to buy to have ready?

I've ordered some IPA and some UV light strips to clean and help cure.

What resin do people suggest I order? (I'm based in the UK)

ok after my 1st failure last night I have a successful print - Hooray. Question I have cleaned the vat with 99% IPA and it still looks cloudy. How do you guys clean the vat.

Hey! Have returned to the wonderful world of stinky fun ? Had the longest one hour connection flight from Oslo to Helsinki, which nearly caved my brain in: we were travelling with drunken choir ? Opening the plane door in mid-flight did cross my mind a few times during the concentrated year...though that was like having the odds to win a lottery, but what waited me at home was the winning ticket itself.

We have a painted screen at one of our walls, that can be taken down to have a mid-toned color for photo shooting. It has been there for two years without an issue. My Photon was on the table and the screen was behind it. Well, the screen had decided to come down, taking the printer with it...I'm so, so glad that I decided to clean the vat before I left, otherwise there would have been a spilled resin Hell! The printer took quite a tumble, but seems to be working fine- my biggest concern was the lcd screen, but it works normally. I'll double check everything today before printing, re-level and hope that nothing came loose during my printers first flight.

Do you have any clue if it's doable to switch the 25W led for a more powerfull one ? Would it improve the cure time?

Looking to Sell my Photon (approx 2 months old, very little use), Decided its not really for me. It is the version with long Z lead screw, 1ltr of monocure clear, 1ltr monocure white, 1/2 ltr monocure grey (all Rapid). Spare Fans (Filter and Bottom), 2 spare LCD's, 2x spare LCD Screen Protectors, 1 x Spare Lead Screw, 1x TL Smoother, about 8 FEP Sheets. Plus tools , mask, gloves.

UK Based.

All in i am looking for £500 + postage costs.
