Looks like I won't be printing the knights for my chess set for a few weeks. Had a print fail last night and then punctured the FEP getting the fail off. Amazon says April 23 for shipping date. :-(
Anyone relatively close to CT have a spare sheet they want to spot me in the meantime?
Mike Johnson 2020-04-02 22:13:04
Check out McMaster-Carr, you'll need to cut yourself, but it'll get to you in a few days if you are in the US
Conan Lloyd 2020-04-02 22:13:42
Thanks for the tip!
Wayne Mitchell 2020-04-02 22:14:48
I am in the same boat
Sydney Thompson 2020-04-02 22:15:49
I have ordered a bunch of stuff from amazon with that ship date and it has all come in within 2-5 days of ordering it.
Conan Lloyd 2020-04-02 22:16:05
That's my hope
Sydney Thompson 2020-04-02 22:16:42
Conan Lloyd I think they are just padding the times so that people don’t get mad when it’s a few days late.
Matthew Rathbone 2020-04-02 22:18:05
i did same but ordered off ebay alot quicker delivery time
Oscar Salazar 2020-04-02 22:24:26
If small puncture, tape it and place model away from it. Good luck.
Richard Shapiro 2020-04-02 22:49:33
Try the FEP from McMaster Carr. They sell it by the foot, and it's less than Amazon. Just cut it to size.
John Koch 2020-04-03 00:55:05
Do you have a direct link? Too many options for me feeble understanding.

That's the one I buy
Mike Johnson 2020-04-03 01:42:58
Bought four feet of it almost 2 years ago, still have a pile of cut sheets...

March 27 ... Ordered 500ml Anycubic Grey. Delivery estimated by MAY2 .... But it will be delivered Saturday April 4 ... which is 9 days ... While not the two day Prime delivery time, but it seems that Amazon is estimating LONG delivery dates just in case their delivery systems get overloaded with priority items customers need most

Thanks all for the help and suggestions for how to support this.
First attempt: printed at 25% of the original svg size on my Anycubic Photon resin printer. I used Anycubic black resin and then dry-brushed some pewter Rub n buff on it.
It came out a bit thin on one side and the back is pretty rough so I’m going to print another one soon.
Josh Berkley 2020-03-31 09:45:08
Anycubic Mars?
Harley DeBeaudrap 2020-03-31 09:46:11
That's awesome
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-31 09:49:33
Thanks Josh , I fixed it. One shouldn’t post while imbibing adult beverages.
Jarrod Richards 2020-03-31 11:05:30
What ended up being the final verdict on supports?
Josh Berkley 2020-03-31 11:49:01
Conan Lloyd lol didn't want to be nit picky more was just hoping for a collaboration..
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-31 11:50:08
No worries Josh , I thought it was funny that I unconsciously combined the 2.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-31 11:52:27
Jury is still out. The one you did got to about 75% and failed at the top. This one was one I did using the photon software and put a bunch of medium supports on it. When I get a fully clean one I'll let you know how it got supported.
Josh Berkley 2020-03-31 12:00:13
Conan Lloyd it had a nice ring to it if it makes you feel better
Jarrod Richards 2020-03-31 13:11:45
Conan Lloyd good to know. I’m testing settings for water washable resin now.. so I’ll be trying all sorts of new supports
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 00:47:15
Hey gang, how does this look for support settings? (sorry about the language in the image)
Dyllon Baldock 2020-03-28 00:48:33
Is that light support setting ? If maybe you medium on that with sups running up the back to the top,( you might have already can’t tell from one sided pic)
Dyllon Baldock 2020-03-28 00:49:11
Been on angle is good but will stop resin pooling inside, besides back support issue I don’t see anything that could off?
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 00:52:05
Back view
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 00:54:17
Zoomed in here. How hard is it going to be to get those internal supports off?
Michael Joseph 2020-03-28 00:55:56
The internal supports will probably fuse to the model honestly
Bob Deblier 2020-03-28 00:58:24
Likelihood of success: extremely slim.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 00:58:24
That's my worry Michael . Maybe I should flip it over?
Dyllon Baldock 2020-03-28 01:00:37
Conan Lloyd personally I’d get rid of those supports do the back manually, That way it’s going now is fine because of the angle of the dangle, they won’t oool resin and shouldn’t have any back support issue aslong as supported from the back
Michael Joseph 2020-03-28 01:00:39
I would try to angle it back more actually. Not totally flat, but angled more. Just to see if that removes the need for internal supports. And I would go heavies all over the back with a raft to make sure the surface area of the print isn't greater than the surface area of the supports
Jeremy Mongoose Harris 2020-03-28 01:02:29
That is a large piece or resen just hanging there. The supports are good my concern whoud be it pulling off the plate with so few. Give it a few main large supports in the center of the peace and a few mid around the edges.
Jeremy Mongoose Harris 2020-03-28 01:03:29
And maybe a few more to fill in the footing just to give you a little more grab on the plate
Dyllon Baldock 2020-03-28 01:05:32
^^ I normally print around a 40-60 angle depending on its size, Idk what your running there
Joseph Kason 2020-03-28 01:07:57
Yeah. More supports (heavy) and a raft. The heavier your piece, the more supports you need.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 01:16:51
Better? Sorry for all the questions but I'm pretty new to placing supports.
Joseph Kason 2020-03-28 01:17:48
That looks good to me for the edges. Need to get some in the middle of your design, too.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 01:18:08
So fill in the top more?
Joseph Kason 2020-03-28 01:39:28
All the blank space needs to be supported.
Michael Joseph 2020-03-28 01:58:33
Conan Lloyd dont feel like you need to cover every space, but maybe a few more on the top half. I normally do a fun design out of supports just to make myself chuckle. Are those heavies? They look really thin, but maybe I'm not grasping the scale of the model
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-28 01:59:23
No they're not heavies. Was getting an idea for placement and coverage then will go back and do the actual setting Michael
Michael Joseph 2020-03-28 02:01:50
Conan Lloyd if that's around 100mm like a gargantuan dnd base, I have success with 10-12 heavies around the outside, and a smiley face in the middle. Maybe add eyebrows to the smiley if I'm extra worried
Michael Joseph 2020-03-28 02:05:04
And obviously support the first few pixels to show up too
Mark Anthony Vasquez 2020-03-28 13:33:13
Did you use the optimize orientation function?
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-27 22:37:48
Hey John Driggers , you still up for helping me with the supports on the Knight?
John Driggers 2020-03-27 22:39:40
For sure...
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-26 00:29:54
You have no idea how much I wish this key worked like it does in the show...
Hit the print with Krylon black primer then brushed on Rub n buff Antique Gold.
Miles Redman 2020-03-26 00:33:43
What is this from?
Danny Dawson 2020-03-26 00:36:36
Is that the anywhere key?
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-26 00:36:40
There is a great show called Locke & Key that came from a comic series by Joe Hill. The keys all do special things. For example, this is the Anywhere Key which when inserted in a lock and used, can let the user open the door to any other door they have seen. So you could use it on your front door and have it open to a door on a street in Paris.
Sterling Murphy 2020-03-26 00:36:52
May able to help you with that
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-26 00:36:57
Yep
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-26 00:37:48
I was referring to its powers in the show. If you can help with that then let's go!
Sterling Murphy 2020-03-26 00:38:17
Conan Lloyd lol sorry no. I was on about making a lock for it
David Collinson 2020-03-26 00:42:39
A leg is snapped off?
Miles Redman 2020-03-26 00:49:17
Ah! I watched the first episode but it didn’t really stick with me
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-26 00:51:01
Yes I had one small support fail with the leg, but I'm happy with the overall print. More was wishing it had the powers from the show.
Bill Griffin 2020-03-26 01:05:27
Check out "The Lost Room" Similar key in it. Great mini series.
Shawn Michael Rains 2020-03-26 08:07:56
All of these 3D printed keys popping up in my feed gave me a bit of inspiration. Maybe someone will find this useful. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/skeleton-key
Arun Sen 2020-03-26 09:06:59
Bro stay at home, dont use the anywhere key to spread covid around the world. lol j/k nice print!!
Nikola Pijanac 2020-03-26 12:56:51
nice to see something different, make more keys
Hoghead Hoffer 2020-03-27 02:08:17
u did great

Today started much better with me waking up to an Anywhere Key on the Photon and the second half of my magnet closure filament sample spool on the Ender
Gerrett Humbarger 2020-03-25 23:43:21
Love that show I’m only missing a few keys
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-25 23:45:46
Just sent you an IM that I think you'll like...
Daniel Eld 2020-03-26 00:43:01
love these
Julian Kupper 2020-03-26 01:16:51
Hi Garrett, Have you got an STL for the Caduceus key I could get? Or a link to where you found it? Liking the work there...
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-24 20:27:20
Left a print going overnight on 2 of my printers. Not a good sign for how my day is going to go.
在我的2個印表機上留下了一個列印. 我今天的日子過得不好.
Kevin Lems 2020-03-24 20:29:10
Stay positive ?? it can only get better from here on ?
Johnny Wee 2020-03-24 20:31:19
Talk about a bad day
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-24 20:32:49
The spaghetti mess was a desktop organizer that made it to about 75% before it detached from the build plate due to warping. I’ll try again with some lowered cooling.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-24 20:41:29
And the Photon fail would have been the Anywhere, Head, and Music Box keys from Locke & Key.
Pavol Bujna 2020-03-24 21:32:20
Every single time ?
Rama Ralf 2020-03-24 21:51:00
Now you can eat noodles xD Carry on!
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-24 21:51:53
Yeah, wife's comment when she came up was "I stopped your printer, you have spaghetti"
Kory Kendziora 2020-03-25 03:06:31
We've all been there, keep on truckin
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-25 03:09:00
No worries, I've already got both printing away!
Richard Arris 2020-03-25 04:06:02
How do you find the Ender3? Thinking about ordering one to go with my photon.
Conan Lloyd 2020-03-25 04:07:21
I love it. I have 2 of them. The one I had the fail on is bone stock, (the fail was because my basement office was too cold so the PLA curled off the plate), and the seond is modified with a silent board and the Hemera direct drive
Richard Arris 2020-03-25 04:10:16
I may have to order a pro to play with during lockdown
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-21 00:02:40

And now we have the Bishop, a 2 headed wyvern. I love how Loubie put a crack in the main crystal as a nod to the “slash” found in traditional bishop pieces. Took about 8 hours on the Photon.
原文網址 Conan Lloyd 2020-03-19 23:15:12
Pawns and Rooks printed. First 2 Bishops on the plate, will keep my fingers crossed for the next 8 hours.
On a related note, my primer and Rub n’ Buff arrive today so I can start priming today or tomorrow.
