Amy messaged me to see if I got my free resin and we chatted a bit. I asked her a couple questions, and she may not have been at liberty to discuss anything, but when I asked about the Photon X she sounded like this isn't currently being worked on... at least not with a bigger build volume. What she said was 'If more people in the community are interested in a printer with a bigger build volume we will take that into consideration.'

That sounded to me like they are not currently working on a bigger version :(

I have been using my original FEP on my tray since I started using the Photon almost two months ago. As a newbie, I learned that the sheet will get marred or dented by trying to scrape bits of plastic off with your fingernail or with the plastic scraper they provide, so I don't do that any more. You can also get some scratch patterns if you rub too hard with a paper towel, so I don't do that anymore. But I also found that the system is pretty forgiving. None of those issue seemed to have a significant impact on my prints.

Yesterday, I had a problem where a tiny bit of cured resin was stuck on the FEP and I couldn't get it off. It almost like a single LCD pixel wasn't masking. I'm not suggesting that was actual the case; it just seems like that would produce the artifact. Anyway, I decided it was time to replace the film.

I have to say that having a brand new film is very satisfying. It is crystal clear and I feel confident that I know how to take care of it now.

The process for replacing the film was straightforward and went very well. The only tiny, insignificant nit is the whole "using a bottle cap" to set the proper initial tension. Seriously? A bottle cap? The bottle cap I used had a little bit of knurling on it that did actually get transferred to the film. The final tensioning all but made it disappear, but the whole bottle cap thing seems a bit ridiculous to me.

So my question is, has anyone gone ahead and modeled something to use in place of the bottle cap? If not, has anyone thought about it? The video says a height of about 13mm. It doesn't say anything about the diameter, though. Also, does it make sense to make something more lozenge shaped, since the tray is rectangular? Maybe some kind of guide to keep it centered while working on the screws?

I haven't tried this, but can we do this with out Photons? 'Print in place' objects such as hinges and gears? I'd think the small gaps would fill with resin and be an issue just like those very close supports the autosupport option creates. I've read the Photon can print as small as a human hair, but I seem to have trouble with objects that are close getting fused together, so I am not sure if a hinge would work. I'll give it a try but just wanted to see if anyone else has had success.

Are there two models of these? Because some people seem to have ones with blue windows and a flaky power supply... Mine came with yellow windows and the power supply seems to work fine.

Hello there people! I've been struggling with my printer from day one since it was always turning off and back on again randomly. I have tried everything I have already written a long post about it don't want to bore you with it. I've also learnt that many of us are struggling with the same issue. Well I don't want to jinx it but I might have a solution. Also many questions. If you follow what I've done DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK PLEASE! You can also follow this post before doing anything to your printer you should not, someone more knowledgeable might tell me off for what I did, any advice is welcome. One more thing I do not mean to take credit for this I just volunteered myself as a desperate guinea pig following the suggestions of Vinicius Silva .
Here is what I've done:

In here you'll find a potentiometer and a reference voltage. As far as I understood the maximum of this reference voltage is 1.2v. In the post Vinicius Silva said his was 1.07v. When I checked mine it was only 0.93v. I have turned it up to 1.16 (random number quite hard to get an exact number did not want maximum but wanted to turn it up please let me know if this was stupid of me).
Now. Ever since I did this (only yesterday) the printer seems to work without issues. It might be unrelated but it seems to me that the fans don't slow down when the uv light comes on and everything just feels more powerful about the machine. I have upgraded to the latest firmware from AC website. Just printed the test cube from the original pendrive with no issues whatsoever. This is a first for me. Also the random beeps have gone.
One issue I'm worried about if this extra power would fry something in the printer in the long run. Also the stepper motor feels quite hot. In another post people told me that it is quite normal to certain extent but would be more relaxed about it if I knew temperatures or some way to test if it's safe.
Once again sorry for the long post. Any advice or telling me off is welcome I'm here to learn and share info about the printer.
In the long run if it turns out that this sorts out this issue we could tell AC about it so they could double check the ref voltage before shipping the printers they could save a fortune on warranty issues and ease the headache of their customers.
If in the next few days the printer fails again I'll delete the post I don't want to cause confusion.
