It's amazing how quickly time passes. Just got my photon (430€, aliexpress) and I'm quite impressed with the quality. On the left is a DLP printer I built from scratch about two years ago, it was probably one of the first ones that used experimental FEP vats instead of the darn silicone back then. Build plate size and print resolution are more or less equal, but obviously it's huge and heavy due to the DLP projector inside. Part of the weight comes from a 16 pound linear slide/spindle that is a bit overkill, but still, wow. Same machine, but 6 times smaller and roughly 2-3 times cheaper (just in material costs for the big one; half a year of construction is hard to calculate). Time to get the projector out of there and watch some movies I guess. At least until the 150€ bulb needs to be replaced again...

wow the detail is insane!! ❤️ first time i hollowed a model with mesh mixer it was smooth. a bit of the supports detached but it had zero influence on the print (but i need to study why for later)

Quick tip for those with sunny environments, keep the box the printer came with and put it over the printer.

This should work well enough to keep UV out of the printer until you can replace the panels or block them. It's likely I'll be taping something over all my windows for a while.

Bah! Could not print today due to bad weather. Really don't like the idea of power going off, when the print is at 99.9%, so did a bit more modeling. This is the second in line to be molded and casted. Now I just need a good print to get started ?

Oh, did write about this earlier today, but it doesn't hurt to repeat: The green mystery resin that comes with Photon is not good with high temperatures. Tried to make a vulcanized mold out of a print, but it twisted under the heat and pressure. It eventually settled into this funky shape, so not the best of ideas if you want to have an exact wax model and not a piece of modern art.

Tried printing this twice and failed both times. Settings are on default. Any ideas what is going wrong? It is printing the very bottom layer, but it seems like the rest is not sticking.
