My Atom 2.0 stopped turning on so I went to investigate and found this. This is where the wire for the on/off switch goes. Any idea why this would burn out and break like this?

I've got S3D settings for single & dual extruder Atom2. But I haven't used S3D in years so I'm not sure how up to date they are. I did use the dual extruder setting to print the 2 color Thingiverse Traffic Cone once, so I know that one worked way back then.

I only use S3D for the Machine Control app, and that is very infrequent. Consequently I don't see myself paying for the upcoming S3D Ver.5 upgrade.

Hi, I have a weird issue. My hotend heats up to 240 degrees fast and just fine when it is by itself. Once I place the hotend into the black hotend assembly it heats up slowly and never passes 200 degrees. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for your time

something short circuit. should be around the nozzle.

Yinka Alade
2017-08-07 09:35:08

that's what I thought until I put in my other hotend which is brand new and the exact same thing is happening.

黃俊傑
2017-08-07 10:25:56

ok, u need use the multimeter to check the wires.

Yinka Alade
2017-08-07 10:29:58

Never done that before. What should I exactly be checking for?

黃俊傑
2017-08-07 10:41:59

just check the which one wire short circuit.

Yinka Alade
2017-08-08 11:26:48

So Birk Binnard told me I should check the PSU unit. I unplug the Atom 2.0 and go to find one of my PSUs laying around. All the ones I found don't match exactly to Atom's. So I said forget and plugged it all back in. Turned it back up, set it to 200 de grees and now it works fine without turning off and the other hotend that wouldn't reach temp reached temp fine and the machine didn't turn off.

So the power plug was loose are something I guess. Welp, problem solved, back to printing.

Question, why would a printer on my Atom 2.0 be perfectly fine with a layer height of 0.2 but when I got to 0.1 the print has gaps in the layers laid down? Also I've adjust the Z height and nothing really solves that problem. The main problem is the first layer which unfortunately for this print needs to be almost perfect.

翻譯年糕

Dennis Chen
2017-06-28 16:02:47

Maybe the print bed needs re-calibrating for 0.1 to work. You can run auto-leveling twice or more to ensure precision first, then fine tune the Z height.

Yinka Alade
2017-06-28 19:30:04

Tried that a bunch of times already and it still prints like its clogged or something when it's not.

Joe Abaquin Bing Aquino
2017-06-28 20:35:05

Maybe u over tighten the bracket one and the bed is a bit flexing

Yinka Alade
2017-06-28 21:41:11

Brackets are good. I doubt the bed is flexing because where it determines to be weird is inconsistent. It's mainly an issue with prints with large first layers.

So far I've done a .15 print that came out decent. It had a few errors on the first layer. Every layer after the first is fine.

Joe Abaquin Bing Aquino
2017-06-29 01:05:49

That's good to know. And if that happen to me again, I will do .15 too.

原文網址 Yinka Alade
2017-01-19 15:12:49

Anyone know why my printer prints correctly from front to right, but poorly from back to left? The bigger the print, the worst this issue becomes. It's mainly a first layer and 2nd layer issue. It appears the hotend goes from regular level to then dipping downward as it goes backwards and to the left. I'm not understanding what is causing this issue.

Also using code G1 F5000 Z50

You have to do manually The Least Square Correction for bigger prints

Do what manually? Also what does "The Least Square Correction" mean?

Bigger prints issues are the weakness of the official information.

Maybe you can check the tension of Z-tower belt, or the installation of the guide wheel on the stepper motor.

I have a replacement screen for my Atom, but it's missing a plug the original Atom screenboard has. However, my screen without the plug seems to be working fine. So what does the "ATOM USE" actually do?

翻譯年糕

Hawke ChienSheng Liu
2016-08-03 09:21:12

Is your ATOM 1.0 or 2.0?

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:21:23

2.0

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:23:45

Maybe original lcd didn't broken? Might be you use the wrong fw,
the fw version end with b is for ATOM 1.x.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:25:24

I had that plugged in since march and it worked fine. It just recently broken. So that white tab is ONLY for Atom 1.0? You sure, cause I say the online instructions and it shows the guy putting that in I believe.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:25:52

also what do you mean by fw?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:26:29

Did you upgrade Firmware(fw) via arduino IDE recently ?

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:27:37

oh firmware... I upgraded to 2.7, then back down to 2.4

And it worked fine for like 2 days

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:28:07

the new screen works and the old screen doesn't. Same firmware and all.

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:28:39

But did you use the firmware version end with b?
Since ATOM 2.0 firmware can't support this LCD without "ATOM use" pin without modification.
It's highly possible you are using the wrong version firmware 2.04b (it's for ATOM1.x)
But, it might be ok now, just dont' restore fail safe.
Otherwise, remember to set steps/mm to 160 for X,Y,Z axis. & 200 for E axis & save.

Just a reminder, if you don't understand what I am talking about.
It's ok, once when you got problem in the future, it might help.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:36:11

Right now I am not using any firmware as I installed a new board.

So this is how it went. The screen was messed up. I got told by another user I somehow fried the board with my hotend themostat. So I bought a new board AND a new screen. The new board came first. I installed it and the screen was still messed up. I got the new screen today, put the new screen in and it works fine. So I'm thinking it's the screen.

You're asking if it's the firmware which it's not, because when I installed the firmware it worked. It worked for days on 2.7 and when I went back to 2.4. So if it was the firmware, it shouldn't have worked the moment I installed it right?

But seriously, what does the white plug do?

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:37:33

so this new screen can't be used in atmo 2.0 without the ATOM USE plug?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:40:10

Sign, you didn't explained what controller board you are using clearly.....
The "ATOM use" plug is designed for ATOM2.0. (you always understand as reversed.) So, it's for the ATOM 2.0(not firmware version, I am talking about model) firmware only work s with it connected.

The firmware version number end with b (like 2.0.4b) it's for ATOM1.0~1.x model.

So, what is your new controller board? It's ramps1.4 or MKS Gen?
What is your step stick now? A4988 or DRV8825?

Whatever, if yours works fine. It's fine.

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:42:58

He is official support, you can ask him more ;p

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:44:47

the controller board I'm using is this

https://www.amazon.com/....../ref=oh_aui_detailpage......

The Atom guys said that would work.

So the plug is for Atom 2.0. So that plug literally makes the firmware for Atom 2.0 work? I wasn't using any firmware with a b at the end. If I were, wouldn't the screen have stopped working as soon as I installed the firmware and not after? To be clear, the screen stopped working when I was using the controller board I got from Atom 2.0

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:46:28

Sign, so tired to explain that. Check LCD2004 4bits, 8bits parallel control by yourself.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:48:01

Answer this question, if the wrong firmware was installed on the original atom 2.0 controller board, why did the screen work for days just fine and then stop?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:48:23

If you use firmware like 2.0.4b on original LCD , it still possible to display correctly.(just sometimes might mess up) Since 4 bit's LCD connection still there. It's backward compatible. The much serious problem is what's your stepstick using now? A4988 or DRV8825. The steps/mm difference.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:50:00

I'm going to put back in the old board and install the latest firmware for Atom 2.0 which I think is 2.0.7 and see if it works.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:50:18

this is what the screen was looking like before

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 09:51:23

Since your new controller board is the same, actually you can plug the "ATOM use" pins on new controller board. Just find out the same place same pins.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 09:52:45

I did, but there's no where to plug that into the new screen. Also I'm rechecking my downloads and I only installed the 2.0.4 and 2.0.7. None of these were version B.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:12:30

reinstalled the firmware and the screen still doesn't work. Going to try firmware B with the new screen since it doesn't have a "ATOM USE" on it

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:21:38

as expected, 2.0.4 doesn't work on the old screen or new screen. 2.0.5b works on the new screen. So I'm coming to the conclusion my old screen from Atom is just broken. Is there anywhere to buy that screen from other than Atom?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 10:31:54

Yinka Alade No, it's customized for ATOM. Never seem it in other place.
BTW, Check your stepstick. If you are using 2.0.5b on "new controller board" but stepstick is DRV8825. need to change the steps/mm as previous mentioned.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:33:29

I honestly have no idea what a stepstick is. How do I check that?

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:35:52

Who is official support? Hawke ChienSheng ?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 10:39:56

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:55:51

I get it now. I took the A4988 chips off of the Atom board and put them onto the new board

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 10:56:21

So when i comes to firmware 2.0.X and 2.0.Xb... does this change print quality at all?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 10:59:30

hmmm from original ATOM board, it's "DRV8825"

Check your steps/mm in LCD menu X,Y,Z E should set to
160,160,160,200

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 11:02:32

oh, if that's the case, then the chips I took off are "DRV8825". Which ever, I took them off of the ATOM main board. I'll check the LCD panel right now.

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 11:05:23

right now they're set to half

80, 80, 80, 100

So I can set to double manually and that will be good?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 11:05:52

yes, you should double it & store memory

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 11:13:13

ok. got it all changed and now I'm about to put this stuff back together and do a test print.

I really appreciate all that help, Clarence !

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 11:51:25

Sometimes the light that turns on the board when the hotend heats up starts flashing. Is that normal?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 11:57:42

Yinka Alade if it's the MOS for hotend heater , it's normal

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 11:59:58

Sorry, one more question, lol.

I have 2 hotends. One brand new from Atom and one i changed the blue and yellow wires for. The brand new one heats up quickly and perfect. The one i changed wires for heats up slower but reaches 200. However it cant reach 240 and stops at 230. You have any idea what the issue could be?

Clarence Lee
2016-08-03 12:01:40

assembly issue , wire issue , thermistor or heater quality/condition.(check via multimeter, compare the resistor value on heater)

Yinka Alade
2016-08-03 13:04:10

got my test prints done and everything looks good. Thanks again Clarence

Yinka Alade
2019-11-13 10:17:04

Birk Binnard the answer is in here. It delt with chaning the steps

"Check your steps/mm in LCD menu X,Y,Z E should set to
160,160,160,200"

Birk Binnard
2019-11-13 11:23:52

Yinka Alade Is that in the configuration.h file? Or somewhere else?

Yinka Alade
2019-11-13 11:24:20

Birk Binnard in the menu in the LCD.

Birk Binnard
2019-11-13 11:25:55

I thought the lcd menu text was somewhere in configuration.h

Yinka Alade
2019-11-13 11:26:27

Birk Binnard could be. I’ve never messed with that file.

Birk Binnard
2019-11-13 11:27:08

Ok. I'll see what I can find.

Birk Binnard
2019-11-13 14:20:10

OK - I found it: the Steps values are in the LCD menu itself, not in any code module. The values are at the end of the Control/Motion screen. Mine are currently set to +160,+160,+160,+0200 so it looks like I should be good to go once I get the new board installed and loaded with my current firmware.
