A question about the “new version” Photon with the Photon S board (Fauxton). Will the exposure test still work on it? My friend wants to buy one but I have stressed that running the exposure test is the key to success.

Please don’t turn this post into a dumpster fire.

*Update- I printed a test of angled and flat orientation. Once I supported the angled model all the way around the edge, I got really good results on the base. The flat model gave good results also.

The big difference is the amount of support damage on the back of the model. The flat orientation is much better, as it took less supports in general.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Original postI need to understand what’s going on here. My minis turn out great, but the bottoms of bases are generally always warped. Searching for “warping” didn’t get the answer I was looking for. In the second photo (it’s hard to see), but the worst warping is where the base wasn’t supported. I didn’t feel it would need to be. I only put enough support on to make sure it stays adhered to the build plate.

Thanks in advance!

*Edit* Sorry for posting the wrong pre-paint pic. It’s fixed now.

So for anyone contemplating the Photon, this is my fourth print from the Photon.....ever! My first was to ensure I had it set up right, and stopped 5 minute in, and the next two had support (placement) failures. I am experienced with the Prusa Mk3 (amazing printer), but I picked up painting minis in the past month as a hobby, and needed a better printer for the purpose. I watched a bunch of videos on supports from 3DPrintingPro, did the exposure test, and here I am, 4th print.

Now, before anyone cracks on my painting skills, I’m trying to get my coordination back after I suffered a traumatic brain injury and brain bleed. My fine motor skill is shot. ?

All I came here to say is that if you do your homework on this thing before jumping in, it’s truly a breeze. I’ve had a lemon FDM printer before and understand if anyone is going through that with their Photon, but man, mine is a keeper.

Gushing post over!
