Was going to replace the FEP but when I tried to remove the screws 2 of them can't be twisted.. ? both are the screws in the middle on the long side of the VAT.

So basicly I can't remove my FEP right now ?

I think the FEP is good to go for a few more prints but it won't fix the problem.. so does anyone know how to fix this ?

Gonna have to either use an extractor bit to get the screw out or buy a new vat and screws

Bernhard Rubel
2020-04-02 20:20:33

Press a foil or paper with the key in the screws head

Richard van Vondel
2020-04-02 20:20:49

Use a dremmel make a normal cut in. It and use a normal screwdriver

Jeremy James Rutherford
2020-04-02 20:23:16

I contacted anycubic about stripped screws in my build plate assembly, and they sent me a whole new one. If your still covered, I would reach out and let know, but I'm sure somebody's idea will work for getting this one functional again.

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 20:24:25

Jeremy James Rutherford I've had it for almost 2 years now.. it's the OG blue window Photon so I guess they won't fall for that ? but it's worth a try ?? ?

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 20:24:44

Bernhard Rubel gonna try that! Thanks ?? ?

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 20:24:59

Richard van Vondel also a good option! Thanks ?

Robert Fliege
2020-04-02 20:25:37

And if those tricks don't work, you'll have to drill the screw out. My experiance in drilling out flat heads has been once the head comes off, the body of the screw twists out fairly easily.

Jeremy James Rutherford
2020-04-02 20:26:29

Kevin Lems Gotcha. I wish you luck with removal then!

Peter Csaki
2020-04-02 20:26:42

Also, you can try with a torx bit. Those have better grip on stripped allen key screws.

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 20:27:09

Tony Healey
2020-04-02 20:30:34

Are you using an imperial Allen key in place of a metric one?

Stephen Seymour
2020-04-02 20:31:23

Use one of the hex head extractors, they work a treat. Maybe use a better quality hex key in future, the ones supplied aren’t that good

Bogdan Moresanu
2020-04-02 20:37:56

Manuel Galán
2020-04-02 20:38:35

What size is that allen? Is it metric?

Gregory Akin
2020-04-02 20:51:03

watching you turn that just hurts my soul a little bit.

Peter Manks
2020-04-02 20:52:58

Get the imperial size hex just above the metric you are using, it's about. 5mma bigger and should fit in the rounded hole snugly, if not then get an impact driver

Mickael Blache
2020-04-02 20:55:34

Utilise un élastique

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 21:03:19

Tony Healey don't know honestly ? just the ones that came with the printer ?

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 21:04:10

Manuel Galán it's one that came with the printer

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 21:06:03

Gregory Akin may I ask why? I was trying to hold the VAT and twisting and filming ?

Kevin Lems
2020-04-02 21:06:27

Peter Manks 2mm is to small and 2.5 won't fit.. ?

Thomassen Ølf
2020-04-02 21:08:06

Peter Csaki absolutely

Alexandre Renard
2020-04-02 21:08:40

try this method with a rubber band or use a torx tip

Gregory Akin
2020-04-02 21:08:49

Because you are stripping the screw

Thomassen Ølf
2020-04-02 21:09:45

Mickael Blache I've done the same with 2 part epoxy putty

Aiden Sone
2020-04-02 21:11:48

If nothing works just make it into a slot for a flat head screw driver. Then replace with a new screw.

David Martin
2020-04-02 21:15:43

Also... it should be noted that the allen keys that come with the photon are cheap and they themselves wear out really easily adding to this issue.

Peter Manks
2020-04-02 21:35:58

Impact it is then, spray it with wd40 first though

Tony Healey
2020-04-02 21:37:04

and cheap screws as well...

Jan Germann
2020-04-02 21:58:07

The video makes my eyes hurt!

David Wang Honey
2020-04-02 22:14:20

Use the rubber band trick or use Teflon tape wrapped around the key. Could use a couple wraps to make tight

Daniel Worden
2020-04-02 22:35:58

Mine did the same thing. I just add pressure and they loosen.

Darren Donovan
2020-04-02 22:41:26

Screw extractor will fix that right up.

Stefan Giudici
2020-04-02 23:47:48

Do you have a Dremel? Take a small cutting wheel and cut a notch into the screw head, use a Flathead and back it out

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-02 23:50:02

Or you could just start ordering the replacable FEP vats from Elegoo.

Chris Wilson
2020-04-02 23:52:15

Grind off the tip of the Allan key. It's usually the Alan key that strips before the screw. So grinding off the worn part should work.

Brett Thompson
2020-04-03 01:26:26

The screws on this printer are the cheapest POS I have seen.

Kevin Lems
2020-04-03 01:28:44

Thanks for all the tips and tricks! Going to try it again tomorrow when I've bought some spare screws ?

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-03 01:29:17

After I've gotten over all the quirks, or shit design as you put it. You can really get some amazing prints out of it.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-03 01:29:58

Misread your comment, I though you said the printer was a POS, and I was thinking, it's really good for what you pay.

Brett Thompson
2020-04-03 01:30:31

Oh totally, replace the screws and balljoint and you got yourself an amazing printer. For all it's quirks I have enjoyed my 5 months with it.

Yessik Ziiq
2020-04-03 02:19:23

Brett Thompson It's kind of like one of those cheap cars that people swear by. It might be a piece of junk, until you learn how to use it.

Patrick Harland
2020-04-03 02:50:53

can i ask where you're getting the spare screws please? I had the same problem with mine but thankfully the trick with using rubber band as grip worked for me so i was able to replace me fep

Thomas Morgan
2020-04-03 03:50:42

Try a rubber band in the slot.

Kevin Lems
2020-04-03 03:53:53

Uuh I was thinking of getting tham at hardware store ? but maybe I need to order them online

Chris McDonough
2020-04-03 09:36:13

Bernhard Rubel Or put a rubber band inside and press into it.

Danny Gonzalez
2020-04-03 10:05:52

the same thing happened to me, but with the screw on top of the plate for leveling. Super frustrating.

Nikola Pijanac
2020-04-03 10:12:41

The screws would be standard M3 if you crack open a caliper if you have one or eyeball one of them with a ruler you'll be able to find out. Dealers like Melbourne Bolt would have them if you google for your area Nut and Bolt dealers you should find plenty. Your local Bunnings stores would have them as well. If you find long ones you can always cut them down to size.

Matthew W. Johnson
2020-04-03 10:13:35

Use a torx head screwdriver on a slight angle to remove the scew then replace it at a hardware store.

Toby Kirkby
2020-04-03 10:19:09

will the head with epoxy putty and while soft imprint the hex wrench in it.

works great

Richard Tyler Jr
2020-04-03 11:48:38

Is it metric or sae hex?

Lucas Regadas
2020-04-03 13:40:10

use some ruber to create more grip and than change this scew

Justin Monk
2020-04-03 14:20:05

Like Richard Tyler said it may be simply using the wrong hex version.

I guess you can sit it in the sun for a day, then let it settle for a week, then pour it off through a coffee filter?

Thomas Holm
2020-04-01 21:47:25

Question: for how long do you use it? I use it in the Wash'n'Cure bucket and it is getting decidedly murky. But it still removes the resin.

Kevin Lems
2020-04-01 21:58:09

Thomas Holm I've used it for a few months. Haven't used my photon and cleaner for a while now so can't really advise you on how long you can use it. But there is a lot of resin in my cleaner and I'm going to clean it all first so I can make a fresh start ?

Kevin Lems
2020-04-01 21:59:38

Ben Johnston but where do you store it in for a week. I've been thinking of putting it in a plastic 2L soda bottle but I don't really trust the resin in a plastic bottle ?

Ben Johnston
2020-04-01 22:02:35

I keep mine in a really well seal kitchen storage container (Sistema, but the more expensive Brilliance ones). Its good quality polycarb/HDPE, its fine for resin etc. It seals all the way around the top

Need some help ?

I hollow and place support with Prusaslicer. When I export the buildplate with supports as .stl, the model becomes solid again ??‍♂️

So when I open the file in Chitubox the holes are gone and it's a solid, supported model..

Could someone help me out? ?

I guess it had to do with the .pws file. That's probably the new standard for Photon Workshop..

Switched back to Chitubox and I got a model to print ?? ?

Yeah, running into to problems again ? ??‍♂️

I'm trying to print a Chibi Carnage model but I'm getting failures.. and the weird thing is, the solid head stuck to the plate and printed (with a few teeth missing due to supports..) but the hollowed arms wouldn't print at all ??‍♂️

Added supports in Prusa, sliced in Chitubox, ran trough validator, adjusted a few supports and got no islands. Started the print and only the supports printed..

Same with the solid head, validator said perfect but the print isn't..
