hi all

thought i would share an experiment i carried out. i wanted to see the minimum line width that i could print.

i printed this test piece and each line is cut to a different depth (0.05 / 0.08 / 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.3). for each set of 5 the width of the line is printed on the item and the spacing between lines is 0.5mm.

i was impressed that lines of 0.05mm were still showing up

this was printed at 0.02mm layer height and printed flat on the buildplate, any theories as to whether there would be better detail printing at a particular angle?

If this was printed at an angle, you would begin to see layer and pixel lines. Great test though, with informative results.

You know, I've been having a hard time printing at 0.02 layer height. What settings do you use when you print at that height?

i have Ameralabs AMD3 and i print at 4 sec exposures

im trying a vertical print now

Cool thank you!

right, a vertical (upright) print at 0.02mm gives much better definition even after priming. the negative spaces are between 0.085 and 0.12mm and the heights of each block average 0.5mm

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:42:45

primed these are the upright ones

Jim Monty
2020-03-30 03:43:45

and these are the less defined printed flat on build plate

Reaching out for some help. this is the first calibration test i run. its Ameralabs AMD 3 (my high detail resin for very very very fine scale buildings with lots of details around0.1mm and below).

can you advise what you think the best exposure time would be? im verging on 4secs maybe 4.5?

please let me know

You are meant to times in by 2 to get the seconds so 8-9s

Column 4

Jim Monty

really? can you explain please as i want to make sure im understanding this properly. i can see more fine details in column 2

Jim if you look at the bars extending from the circle at column 2 they are not clean cut at all. You want the column that has a well formed circle with the dot inside and the columns next to it being clear and not bulging. Column 4 is where things start looking good.

hi all im using OG photon and ameralabs AMD3.

im trying to print at 1/1250 scale so its really tiny. so ar i have been able to print a negative line of .025mm and 0.4mm deep. i need to recreate a stone wall.

i would like to know what is the smallest negative space i should be able to ordinarily achieve and how far apart can i ahieve it for example the line was 1mm from the edge, can i replicate the line in .5mm away or .25mm away?

i hope you can help

Any ideas?

25 micrcons is the practical limit as that’s the resolution of the screen although theoretically you could over burn to get it smaller, but it won’t be reliable

Jim Monty
2020-03-27 18:22:29

could i then reliably print negative space of say a straight line of 0.1mm width negative? abd say 0.1 deep

hi, i work on very small scale models. i have sole helicopters that require rotor blades. i have some on 0.2mm brass photo etch but i wondered if it would be [possible to successfully print these on the photon and if so how to best orient and support them

Not quite the same, but here is a 1/35 kayak paddle I printed. I'm no expert, but generally I would say you need to avoid having flat surfaces parallel to the build plate, and spend some time finding a good amount and size of supports (manually), so th e print does not fail, but without having to do insane amounts of clean up.

With long thin items, warping can be a problem too. I managed to cure this one straight, but it is now a bit curved.

The shaft is maybe 0.6mm thick and the blades thinner than that

Hi Photonsters, quick question I am priming with Vallejo surface primer but after 24hrs the primer can easily be scratched off the surface of the resin. Is this normal?

Ok so I have read a lot about the various resins. I need a resin that ideally is very reliable, prints fine detail and prints quickly with low exposure times. I hear a lot about the Monocure Rapid stuff as well as sticking to Anycubic Green. However budget isn’t much of a problem so I wouldn’t go cheap over performance.

Really grateful for your suggestions and views

Did my first print today. I had some warping issues with one corner that had supports come unstuck from the bulls plate. Any suggestions on how to improve? I was thinking of printing flat on the BP or to increase height of supports of Chitubox to 8-9mm. What would you all suggest?

Hi All,

noob here. im about to embark on my first print. im using the sample anycubic green. my object is 11mm in length and 2 cm tall. its basically a hollow rectangle with 3mm walls and holes on sides to take up less resign and also less suction. ideally i would like to print it flat rather than 45 degrees because of build time.

my proposed setting are layer height .05mm

bottom count 8
ex tim 10
bottom ex time 50
light off 4.5 (its the yellow window printer bought around xmas time)
bottom light off 0

i am using chitubox auto-supports for it but would like your assessment if anything is glaringly wrong

Hi all. Noob question. I’m trying to print in 1/1250 scale for a model. The building in question is 39m wide and 12m tall. Some feature such as a balcony are 3m which in printed dimensions would be 2.5mm. Is the photon capable of printing accurately in these sizes? I know it’s meant to be able to handle smaller scale and I know the resolution seems to be there but I’m asking more about real life operations. Say for example I need to print a pilar that is .5mm in scale size will it be able to print a straight pillar thisnsize with a height of 3.2mm?

New to the group just having got one for Xmas. I have seen how the Ameralabs water washable 3 black resin seems to have as little as 4-5 sec exposures and seems to be able to produce good quality details and prints.

Any experience of this resin? I am considering purchasing
