So due to the current situation, IPA Alcohol bottles are impossible to find unless you want to pay a disgusting scalper 50+ dollars for ONE bottle. Is there any other way I can wash resin parts? Iv tried simple green, it doesn't work.

Acetone

Fernando Valenzuela
2020-03-23 22:54:23

Would regular water work? Dunk them in a tupper box and leave the parts for a while?

Fernando Valenzuela
2020-03-23 22:54:33

Wouldn't that just destroy the parts?

James Bricknell
2020-03-23 22:55:37

Fernando Valenzuela nope. It's amazing at cleaning but you need to be quick. It doesn't need a long soak.

I use Mr. Clean in my ultrasonic cleaner and have no complaints.

Dan Gump
2020-03-23 22:57:43

Mean Green is what I use.

Fernando Valenzuela

How long do you leave the parts submerged for?

Mike Stacey
2020-03-23 22:59:24

Simple green works like a charm. You have to scrub with a brush unless you have an ultra sonic.

I dont have a cleaner, but I do have plenty of SG. How long would I have to keep the parts submerged to get results?

Mike Stacey
2020-03-23 23:00:37

i leave them in there for 15 mins and then take a tooth brush and scrub the parts. Then rinse them in clean warm water.

Real question: could you use vodka? :)

Fernando Valenzuela

Cure the used stuff, run it through a paint filter, dump the filter.

Dominik Honke
2020-03-23 23:16:47

I use a standard coffeefilter

Mario Hippmann
2020-03-23 23:17:43

Dominik Honke if i use coffeefilter it clog very fast, and no IPA is running through

Dominik Honke
2020-03-23 23:19:23

Mario Hippmann Then use a rougher mesh before that...

If in the US the 99 cent only store csrries gallongs of LAs Totally Awesome for 4 bucks. Works great. Also works fantastic for stripping paint of minis.

I had a bottle of "technical alcohol", basically a cleaning substance for mechanical parts with 70% alcohol, works like a charm

Walt Marti
2020-03-24 05:22:01

Undiluted anti-freeze is often 95%+ ethanol.

Jason Pedersen

I use paper towel. Catches a lot of the gunk, but still flows well. Then run through a coffee filter if it needs.

Just remember to lid your IPA, or it'll all evaporate.

Kirk Brownell

for real though, acetone. recently made the switch due to ipa shortage. im never going back. its gaster cleaner and easier.

So recently I have been getting nothing but failed prints. The piece comes out but there's always gunk stuck to the part as well as a substantial amount of cured resin at the bottom of the vat. I always clean the vat and platform thoroughly after each print and always level properly. Iv updated the machine's firmware last night, did a test print, and still got similar bad results. I currently adjusted the exposure time settings on the slicer, which is anycubics btw and currently test printing a calibration cube. If the print fails, I don't know what else to do, maybe buy a new LCD screen since perhaps the one I have is damaged?
