Question to the hive mind: Which brand and/or type is the most functional (non breaking) resin if I were to make moving parts for action figures, etc.?

I wanted to share a mistake I made when replacing my FEP film.

I replaced my FEP film several days ago and since then I have had absolutely zero luck getting prints to stick to the build plate. I tried releveling many many times with different tensions on the paper from unmoveable to only slight resistance and everywhere in between.

I loosened my FEP sheet, and tightened it. I tried from 300 - 400 hz of tightness.

Nothing seemed to be working for me.

So I decided to take a very close look at what I done when replacing the FEP sheet since the printer was working very well before the replacement.

After cleaning everything thoroughly I began by inspecting the bottom of the vat. Here I noticed the critical flaw in my work. The FEP had indeed been stretched to the correct tension however I did not have enough initial slack in the FEP to allow the bracket to fully seat down into the vat walls. The bracket formed a lip around the bottom of the vat as it sat slightly lower than the bottom of the vat.

What I think was happening is that normally the FEP would be stretched around the bottom of the vat in such a way as to be the lowest point on the vat with it sitting underneath the inner var walls. So you would have screen -> FEP -> Vat stacked on each other with no room between them.

However in my configuration it was screen -> air gap ->FEP -> vat. So I postulate that the small gap allowed the FEP to be pushed down by the plate during printing and introduce enough Z movement into the system that there was too much space between the plate and the FEP sheet.

I then over tightened the FEP to the point that the bracket was seated properly but the FEP was now way too tight registering roughly 620 hz. Now prints reliably stick to the build plate but I expect I will have other issues with prints. I have a new pack of FEP arriving today and will do the swap properly this time giving myself plenty of slack to work with.

Just wanted to share an interesting thing that happened to me in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

Probably already mentioned on here somewhere but what size Allen keys are needed to strip down the ball joint on the build platform? ?

As Robert Daubar posted a link to NASAs gallery of 3D-models yesterday, it reminded me of a project I made last year. It is a model of the TESS satellite in 1/87 scale. The model was made for Norsk Landbruksrådgivning, a Norwegian agricultural consulting firm that was making an exhibition model to show modern agriculture with, among others, GPS-steering of tractors. To show this they wanted a scale model hovering above the diorama.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info you all have provided on this page. I finally had a successful print after 4 failed, I had to use the flint read method to level, and managed to not scratch anything. And up exposure times quite a bit compared to the google doc.

Now I have another question for you all I have the latest photon s with latest firmware are there any printable upgrades I should look into for QOL?

Seems to be a lot of good posts about elegoo resins, are they a good resin to start with for a beginner to sla ?

So... Stupid me forgot to remove supports of previous print (just pulled the printed part off) and well it punctured my vat. With result I got a little print on my LCD screen that is quite thin and doesn't come off that easily.

Any one else had a similar problem? And what to do so I don't damage my screen in the process?
