Quick question regarding things like flat surfaces and suction - I'm currently trying to print a tank STL. Now I'm aware, as this is one of the early ones I did, that I'm trying to do this in a less than optimal way - I know my best bet for the hull would be to angle it and avoid the need for faffing with hollows and drain holes entirely.

What I'm hoping I can get an opinion on is whether I'm likely to be able to compensate for both the hollowness and also the suction from the bottom of the vehicle by using holes as I have, and whether there's anything else I'm doing obviously wrong, besides the lack of angling the hull.

If need be I'll start from scratch. I also know I've also certainly gone overboard on the drain holes!

The settings would be:

0.02 layer height

8 bottom layer count

7.5s exposure

70s bottom exposure

Cheers!

Does anyone know if it's currently possible to buy Elegoo Grey resin in the UK at all? I'm struggling to find any!

So, here's my latest (and after the test print only successful) print. I know what I've done wrong - the least of which is that I added supports to one or two areas I didn't need to.

More seriously, I didn't think I needed drainage holes, so I have resin inside the models. I've drilled two fairly messy holes underneath, each I can fill them in later I just wanted to make sure the resin would drain out. I'd expect it's just in the hull of each as there's not really any more room besides that.

Sop next time, it's drain holes and probably hollow cores to save resin!

Do you guys think it'll drain fully on its' own overnight or should I douse them in IPA again?

Okay so here's a thing. First off I knew the supports would be an issue as the auto-generation option was frankly massive overkill and along with ruining the detail on the underside (I expect it struggled to put the layers down properly between the supports) its painfully obvious that there were just too many of them. So my questions!

1) For a model like this, if I'm doing it in one piece am I better off doing it completely vertically with a few supports so I don't have more than a couple to remove?

2) The 3D model had a decent amount of detail on it that hasn't translated across. Specifically, parts of the top look flattened and without much detail.

I printed at .2 rather than the default .5, used 8 60s base layer cures and a 10s normal cure. The 3d model itself looked like it should be fine (I've seen people print things equally fine) but it feels like something went wrong.

I may have started a bit too ambitious give my experience level, but I'm learning pretty well so far I hope

I don't want to spam the page so this will be the last post related to my previous questions, I just wanted to thank you guys for all the brilliant advice and patient answers. I set off the test print again after re-levelling the plate, heard a very distinctive bang sound (like a drum being hit) shortly after starting, then periodically checked to see how it was doing.

After 6 hours, I have this to show for it. It's been IPA'd then water bathed, now it's sat drying overnight before curing tomorrow.

Now I've got this out of the way I'm comfortable that the machine is working as well as I can expect it to and any problems in the near future are highly likely to be down to me! Thanks again everyone:)

Hi all.

Possibly a silly question, but is there any point in getting an .stl from someone that they've successfully printed from before in anycubic green resin to use as a test?

My first priority is to get something - anything successfully printed so I can be 100% sure the machine works properly. It would hopefully eliminate user inexperience in things like the supports and exposure/layer times. Something warhammer epic size would be very quick to print so I could do a few a night to test, then move on.

Any merit to that idea?

Hey guys

Okay so I tried my hand at 3d printing and I'm calling it a partial success - in that 'something' was printed and it is in 3d.

Beyond that, abject failure.

So I have two questions, as a mate of mine bought a photon as well and had essentially the exact same problem which to me, makes it less likely to be printer error and highly like us being inexperienced.

For my part I did the leveling until I could feel the paper resisting under the plate. I think I may have done it too lightly and not formed a tight seal for the base.

I used the out of the box settings besides that. Had to use the plastic spatula to very, very gingerly pry it off the FEP film (looks perfectly undamaged).

Any tips besides the re-levelling?

Also for people in the UK - what UV light have you got for curing? I need to get one otherwise I'll be stuck printing only on sat and sun mornings.

Cheers guys!
