Like many people I stepped back my firmware when the updated firmware stopped accepting .photons format files. Now version 5 of the firmware is out. People have said that it is no longer proprietary (requiring .pws files). However, now that I have updated to the version 5.0 firmware I find that the printer does not recognize .photons files anyway. I guess I will roll back to v2.99 again. Sigh.

Here’s my fourth failure. It was supposed to be a tank hull for Battletech. But apparently when it got to the first couple of layers of the hull, the hull affixed to the vat floor so the supports pulled away from it. Under cured? Over cured? Something else?

Three days, three tries and I am yet to make my first successful print. My first attempt was the Photon cube. It came out okay but a the base was a little wonky and the word "photon" inside the cube was deformed. This was almost certainly due to not having the Z set properly. I reset the Z and tried again.

I soon had an idea that this wasn't going to work since I could see that the print platform did not stay straight, apparently I did not tighten down the grub screw as tight as I should have. After the platform had risen enough it was clear that the raft detached from the platform and so I had nothing but a little half-formed wafer setting loosely in the vat. I set the Z again.

I was pretty confident about my third attempt. I was sure that the platform was level and that the grub screw was tight. After a few hours I was able to see that everything looked level but again there was no raft attached to the platform. This time the raft was affixed to the FEP instead of the Platform.

Maybe I had the Z set too tightly to the UV LED? I was able to remove the paper with resistance, but maybe it was a little too much resistance. I have reset the Z and will prepare for my fourth attempt tomorrow.

My Photon S was delivered today. First 3D printer I have ever bought. Eager to get started. One problem though the printer was missing one of the adjustable nuts that hold the resin vat in place. I just started a service ticket with Anycubic. Guess I will have to wait until a replacement can be sent before I can do anything.
