Pretty much only printed Minis, new project I'm printing some gems for a costume. What techniques/products do people use to get really smooth shiny surfaces on their prints?

Anyone own a Photon and an FDM printer (particularly the Ender 3)? I am thinking about picking up an Ender 3 for making more functional and larger prints.

Is the Ender 3 a good FDM printer to start with?

If you're in Australia, can you recommend a good place to buy one? On ebay, there are so many options and they vary a bit in price.

Thanks!

Hi all :)

I have a question for people who have had issues in the past with anything under warrenty. I will try and keep it easy to read and short.

I bought a Photon S on 11:02 Mar. 08 2019, literally the exact time I purchased it. After a few weeks it stopped working, I contacted Anycubic support as people suggested and they where great at the start, sent me a main board within 10 days to replace my current one. The machine was so new firmware updates where not available. However this seem "fixing" process has had a number of knock on effects that are still not resolved.
The main one being the machine gets so hot, I keep having to add this, I seriously worry about a fire starting.

This massivly limits when I can do the tests they ask as I dare not leave the machine alone for risk of setting the house on fire.

Skip to today and 4 months of tests, updates, replacement parts and hours and hours of tests and a huge amount of resin used I am now worried that my warrenty will run out and they will simply say "well it's out of warrenty so tough luck"

I have little understanding of the legality of how a warranty works it seems odd that if you buy something that does not work after 12 months of "fob offs" you basically havent a leg to stand on ?

Could some one with better knowledge explain how this all works if anything to just ease my concerns :)

Also if some one that has any sway at all with Anycubic please help me as I am now without my printer for 4 months and every time I run a test I literally risk my house catching fire due to how hot the machine gets.

This is no way a dis against Anycubic, nor their employees I have nothing but respect for them. Just I seem to have got the 1 out of 1000 crappy printer :)

Is it possible to print a lithophane picture with supports? Like flat to the bed? Anyone tried it?

Anyone have problems printing models in parts? I printed some up but either the resin swelled up while curing or the model just had the flaw

Hi Folks. Very happy with the result here. Background..

I am looking at ways to create a mask that can pickup the wearer's facial movement.. And these can be replayed on to a animatronic mask. For example - someone wearing werewolf mask can snarl, raise eyebrows, frown - and this is picked up and replayed via servo's, in real time, to the animatronic head.

EMG will not work - Sweat will invalidate the consistent readings due to conductivity.

This is my final design.. a small light weight linear sensor that will not react to sweat or moisture. The output is a simple analogue signal. Also most importantly - it needs to operate on the power of an eyebrow movement or other facial muscle twitch.

Now I have a resin printer I can print the parts an know they will be glass like smooth to stop friction.
What you see here are 3 x 3D printed shells. The graph paper is 1cm x 1cm for scale.
The PCB contains a QRE1113 sensor that has an IR light source and a Photo transistor. This board fits beneath the shell with the sensor showing through the hole.
The graduated laminated paper with the armature wire fits.. face down.. in to the shell channel.
A soft pad to hold it against the sensor yet still enable it to move freely will be applied on top.

The shell is fixed to a fixed spot above the eyebrow. The armature is glued to the eyebrow using an safe actors glue.
As the eyebrow moved up and down it will push the laminated paper over the QRE1113. The changes in reflectivity will cause the output voltage to changed and read by an Arduino or other. The accuracy is very good.

Enjoy

Well im finally up and running. Thanks to this group and the good people in it. Lets hope it prints ok ? ? My question is, with a slightly large model, how many times would need to top the vat up? the chitubox settings suggested 17ml. How much does the vat hold up to the line? TIA
