Yo..... anyone attempted this build yet? Curious how well it would hold up.

Here’s a fun troubleshoot for all of you wonderful, brilliant makers:

Two examples of a weird thing that’s happened to me a few times in the two weeks I’ve had my Photon.

On the paladin, you can see the one where the cape seemed to have jumped position part way before continuing to print as normal. On the barbarian’s hair, you can see where some part in the middle didn’t print.

Each one is next to a successful print, each of which were made with the exact same file, settings included, with the same resin. In both cases, the rest of the figure came out fine.

What could be the cause of these inconsistencies?

My photon shipped with firmware 4.2.17 and I have not updated it. Should I? I’m getting some good prints, some that are likely just support fails, and some weird stuff like this. Could it be a firmware issue?

I did switch the usb to a cheap but reliable sandisk one that I reformatted to FAT32 before using.

Had a couple really successful prints, then started getting fails. Last handful, all of my models are getting ripped off the supports. I’m printing nothing but supports the last 3 days ?

I’ve tried the Chitubox support settings from 3DProntingPro, this pic is of Prusa support sliced in Chitubox as many recommend, nothing’s working.

What are the likely causes of supports ripping off? I’m guessing generally it’s a suction issue but should I be looking to adjust the contact points, the exposure, the lift time, the ambient temperature...?

I’m at a loss because I started getting failures printing a model that previously had no problems and have been trying every adjustment I can think of.

This resin is SainSmart black and it’s the only one I’ve gotten clean prints out of (experiences a lot of layer peeling with AC translucent green, I think because it was too cold in the room).

Haven’t had any leveling issues from day one, only warping, later splitting, and detached supports.

Got my Photon last week. Looks like it shipped with 4.2.17. Do I need to update? If so, which version is recommended?

**Edit for additional notes**

Ambient temperature in the little cabinet I have the printer in seems to be about 21-22^. Is that too cold?

Mysterious print fail, please help!

Got my printer Tuesday. Started test print, about halfway in everything looked good so I got impatient and stopped it to try printing a simple model of my own design.

Next 5 attempts had spots on them that failed. Adhesion has been fine on everything but I went ahead and re-leveled anyways, still not problems there. Issues I was having was supports failing halfway up and flat surfaces parallel to z axis having weird occasional wobble or sometimes a bend. Figured it was just me messing up the support/orientation so I kept trying.

Finally decided I better run the full test print just to be sure, and this is what I got. Nothing stuck on the fep, only a tiny dot or two floating in the vat.

Been shaking the crap out of the resin bottle before adding it, then letting the bubbles settle out before printing, so I believe it’s mixed up well enough.

Any ideas of what might cause this?

Quick question:

When using a foil lined box and UV light for curing, how much should I adjust curing time? For example, I found a recommended curing time for Anycubic translucent green as 30 minutes, so should I give it 30 minutes in a foil box with a rotating stand, or should I cut that by half or some other ratio?

Question about sealing prints with something other than acrylic:

The thing is, I want to print a little paint pallet for painting minis, and my concern is that if I paint it with acrylic, dry paint from using it will get stuck to the dry paint that’s supposed to be the coating on the print, and removing it will cause it all to peel off.

So what would you recommend to coat a print in that will stand up to repeatedly scrubbing dry paint off of it? I’m not terribly knowledgeable on chemistry and don’t want to create a toxic sludge by spraying the wrong thing onto the cured resin.

Or should I just leave it as bare cured resin? Very new to all of this (my printer hasn’t actually even arrived yet, haha) and want to make sure I’m being safe about it.
