I see some posts about cleaning models, support spots.etc. may i recommend these? They are great and dirtcheap if you buy them on aliexpress (they tend to be 4-5x as expensive when bought on ebay or retailstores. Dirtcheap at around $8 shipped. I own a shitload of them for propreplica work

Well if this one prints perfectly....I give it 89 to 98% chance, then its the official start to the Titan 3d print. This one part....or 2 parts have been redesigned to many times to count and test printed almost 20 times.
You can design in 3d and you can print in 3d but untill your 3d design actually prints you are only mostly sure you got it correct.
The proof of course is in the pudding!....or resin in this case!

Newbie here. I printed this wheel at 40 degrees to the plate. I will have to check slicer settings. What can I do to help eliminate the layer lines in the center?

Hi guys,

Finally I got my Photon yesterday. Before I digged through the different manuals/tips, so everything supposed to be fine..

Resin - base translucent green.

Settings - as per Github table for this resin, screenshot in first comment.

First Z calibration - classic 'paper' method from Photon.

My first issue: I've tryed to make my first print - matrix calibration file - it was sticked not to the plate, but to the FEP. OK, I recalibrated Z axis, removed cured base from the film, but issue appeared again.

Second Z calibration - alternative 'paper' method - after several times of classic method, I tried for 5-6 times with this option ( forllowing the video of proper calibration with paper). On the 6th time matrix calibration print finally sticked to the plate and I was just happy, so decided to print regular model (orc miniature with the base). I left it for print (3,5 hours) and when came back - again I found that the base is sticked to the FEP and process did not proceed further.

Every time I tried to remove cured base parts from the FEP with plastic scraper.

My last hope was to use Flinth's method and when I drained vat to start, I found that there are a lot of small scratches on the FEP which I potentially did, removing sticked cured base from the film.

On the pictures I tried to capture all the scratches, It is clearly visible shadows that scratches cause on the surface.

So, before doing more stupid things (on my opinion - to replace new FEP at once is not the smartest thing to do), could you please advise - should I have to replace FEP, or these cratches are not dramatic and doesnt influence on the sticking problem?

Thank you!

I see this come up a lot; printing objects with a large hollow area without a vent hole.
Some people claim it is creating suction, but physics tells me that the depth of the hollow would not change the suction tension, only the surface area of the solid part of the layer.
If the piece raises above the surface of the resin, then it should even out between layers.
I am willing to admit I am wrong, but would like to know why.

From my research the Bondtech BMG is sla printed. Would a DLP print from the photon yield similar results. The shell as I understand it is not load bearing. I could fdm print the lever. I would just like perfect tolerances in the body. Would this be a good application for the photon?

I've documented some post-print/pre-cure deformation that I thought might be interesting. This print sat on the supports for about 30 hours before being cut loose and then sun cured. I'm pretty confident that it was nice and round when the print was over. Now it is an oval with a 2mm sag (z) and a 2mm widening (x). Note the columns from the center are stretched in the x and fatter in the z directions by a mm or so.

Apart from that, I'm amazed by how much of the thin lattice I was able to preserve during trimming and how resilient it is. Before curing it had an amazing ability to spring back to original shape and after curing it still retains some of that quality.

Enjoy the dimensional nerd musing.
