Hey everyone! A while back, I won another of Elegoo's giveaway contests for a set of their new plastic vats with non-replaceable FEP.

I received mine yesterday and although I haven't used it to print yet, I wanted the give everyone a sneak peek for those who haven't seen them or received them yet.

1. There are four to a pack and were packed in nice and tight and sandwiched by two pieces of foam.

2. The vats ship with a plastic protective film over the *bottom* of the FEP. That'll need to come off before printing.

3. The vats ship with very nice plastic lids. These plastic lids are great because they fit the existing vats also (although it is a tighter fit on them).

4. As I feared, they seem to have a slight warp to them, either from the injection molding process or from the tension on the FEP. I don't think it's enough to cause issues with the printing process, though.

5. It fits nicely on the Mars and the Photon, so it can be used across the two. If I had to guess, I would say it probably fits the Epax X1 too.

6. The thought of a disposable plastic vat kinda concerns me a little bit, because that's one more added bit that gets thrown away. I didn't see any marks for recycling, so it may be destined for the dump if you toss it.

7. This may be an awesome way to get cheap vats to quickly change colors/materials, and may lead to some interesting layered color swapping!

8. Thanks for reading and happy printing!

Looking at the Photonsters github, I saw there is a new firmware listed (same for anycubic official site). The filename looks to be dated 18 Mar 2019. Does anyone have an idea what has changed and whether this is a truly stable firmware update?

Out of curiosity, has anyone gutted their Photon and modded it with a RaspPi + RAMPS (or other board) and then loaded nanoDLP? I may be oversimplifying quite a bit, but at least in my head it seems like it would be reasonably straightforward to do.

Probably nobody cares, but in case someone does - I left a model on the build plate and resin in the vat for 2 months in a blue window version that sits about 6 feet from a window but does not receive direct sunlight.

After 2 months, the model is still OK without post-cure. I was able to easily remove the model from the build-plate. There was still liquid resin on the build-plate, although it was thicker than normal.

The resin in the vat had separated, but had not congealed, skinned, or cured. I was able to stir it back up and get it to mix. The vat was a little low, so I added a little bit of fresh resin from the bottle to the vat and mixed it in good.

I successfully printed a model immediately afterwards.

All this to say - unless your printer is in direct sunlight, you shouldn't have reason to be concerned about resin life in the vat for at least several weeks.

What's the minimum temperature the resin can be exposed to during storage/transport?

A friend of mine wants to start resin printing, but he lives in Canada where in the winter it is -40C to 0C on a regular basis. He's concerned that when resin is delivered to his house during the day, it will be ruined by the time he gets home from work because of the cold.

Anyone from The Great White North have experience with extreme cold and resin?

So I forgot to empty my resin tank before vacation, then forgot it was full when I got back from vacation and didn't need to use it for another two weeks. This story doesn't end the way you think it does..

After almost a month of not being used, it printed just fine! ? Dispelling the myth that you HAVE to empty your vat when not using. But it is still a good idea. Don't follow in my footsteps. Lol

Any ideas what would cause this to happen during curing after cleaning? I was curing two others just like this at the same time and they both came out fine.

So I printed a part in two halves with the intention to glue them together. I thought everything was properly supported, I had no errors in Validator, I used like 30% density supports, I thought the angle was good, and by all means the prints look GREAT. Except they warped.... about half of it fits together like a glove, and the other half has like a 2mm gap.. about 10 hours worth of printing down the drain.

Any idea what the hell happened?

When you hollow a print, do you not have to worry about internal overhangs and unsupported islands? How do you keep things from failing?
