Ok collective, I had a weird fail last night I wanted to put up for the group to diagnose. That large hole in the side of the elephant shouldn't be there, obviously. Same with the one in his neck (the neck does have a 1.5mm drainage hole, but not a gaping wound)

1) it's not a support failure. The missing section is practically vertical, and I've also printed this same file successfully.
2) the photon file is valid. It has a number of 1-5 pixel islands just because of the elephant skin texture, but nothing significant.
3) LCD is working fine. You can tell because details above and below the missing section printed fine, and because there's a flat ridge of built up resin when the section finally fused with the main body again.
4) FEP has no leaks but it is starting to show it's age, so I'm replacing it now.
5) resin is Monocure Rapid grey, 8s exposure, 40s base layers, 23 degree Celsius room temperature.

All I can figure is that the resin wasn't mixed well enough, and that resulted in a puddle of it toward the middle of my plate that didn't cure properly. Simon Powell also suggested pre-heating the resin, worth a shot :)

First successful print! Captain America Belt Buckle. Thank you to fellow member Tom Hickey for some huge help with settings and new slicer suggestion! Second print going now. Hi folks. After some advice about these little holes that appear in my prints. I asked this question earlier on here, when I was getting both holes and lifting prints. Advice was to add holes to prevent suction and or rotate. I added holes, but still was getting more holes and lifting. So I increased the bottom layer exposure time to 120s for 30 layers and this seems to have totally fixed the lifting problem, but not the occasional hole (easy to fix post processing anyway, but knowing the reason would be good). These boxes have about 1mm thick walls, and are 5x5cm in the xy and 1.25cm in the z. Do I need longer normal exposure times, off times, or thinner layers? My thought is that white is gonna need more UV to cure properly than other colours.

I just received my Photon and my Prusa i3 MK3 kit yesterday. I have never used a 3D printer before but I am seriously going to dive in on these. Any of you fine people care to throw out something you wish you had known when you first started printing? Any tips/tricks to share or pitfalls to avoid? Thanks!
