TL;DR - What program do you use to do your supports?

OK, so I've been printing for about 1.5 years now. Up until 3 days ago, my workflow has always been MeshMixer for mesh repairs or F360 for my designs, ChiTu for supports and slicing, validator for checking, print.

3 Days ago I had a look at PrusaSlicer for supports, then photon slicer for slicing, and I feel like I'm spending 1/4 the time doing supporting than I was in ChiTu.

I'm geniunely curious what method is most popular for supporting in the community, and if anyone has tried Prusa for supporting and then gone back to ChiToBox or Photon Slicer.

Thoughts brains trust?

Has anyone printed Lenses on the photon before? Looking at doing some little LED bezels. I have a target beam spread, and my starting point is a WS2812B RGB LED. I have no idea where to even start to try and get the beam pattern I'm chasing.

Anyone got any suggestions, or should I just go with trial-and-error in F360?

Hey All,

Something in a previous comment thread triggered me to finally write-up an issue I've been giving a lot of thought to over the past 18 months of resin printing. At the moment I've done it as the shittiest infographic slide show imaginable, but I think I'm getting across one aspect of 'overexposure' that doesn't get touched on too much, the ugly underbelly of resin prints (literally).

It's also hopefully a bit of an explanation of why most print-in-place mechanisms fail on the Photon, since the excess cure can easily bridge in small gaps.

This is meant to be a discussion piece, some of my thoughts on resin physics/chemistry, and a bit of a demistification. Happy to take comments, but please keep it evidence-based.... ;)

EDIT: The white background was killing me, so I had to at-least fix that. I've also expanded the last couple slides with a shade more detail. Enjoy!

Hey Folks, looking for a little advice on lighting. Just finished setting up my new garage workspace (Photo is from before the printer had moved in), and I want to add some extra lighting.

Some people have reported issues with LED striplight emitting UV. I don't really want to order 3-4 fixtures off e-bay, then discover I can't have them turned on when there's any uncovered resin about.

Can anyone offer some guidance on what I should/shouldn't be looking for to save myself some headaches?

Just came across the Tronxy (?TronXY?) Ultrabot. Looks like another photon-style machine, similar price-point to the S. Still a single Z-rail, but I like the double-door design. Has anyone here tried it?

Hey Folks,

OG Photon owner here, been lurking for a while. I've seen a lot of posts come up regarding ventilation and smell, my problem turns the whole thing on it's head a little. I've recently finished setting up a new workspace in the lock-up underground garage of my unit. It's quite dusty down there, mostly that horrid black tyre rubber residue you tend to get in underground carparks.

Should I be thinking of disconnecting/reversing any of the fans to try and minimise the amount of crap getting into the print chamber? If I do reverse the fan(s), will the 'standard' filter cartridge approaches still work, just sucking the intake air through a filter to clean it up?

Thoughts/Experiences?

Hey Folks,

Apologies if this is discussed somewhere in another post, but I haven't been able to find it.

Just wondering whether anyone has a way of automatically changing the exposure time mid-print? At the moment I'm printing some threaded parts but the threads keep coming out slightly oversized. If I drop the exposure, I see a bit of cracking in the body of the part. I've attached a screenie of one part for reference, It's printed direct-to-bed by that flat base. What I want to do is run a 12-second exposure up to the start of the thread, then drop it to 10 seconds from that layer up.

Is there a feature in the Validator or something that could modify the .photon file, or will I just need to set a reminder and go down to the printer at about the right time to do it manually?

Can anyone suggest a good alternative to Thingiverse for minifigs (Dark Future Sci-Fi type things)? I've mostly been printing (and designing) mechanical toys and such so far, but the signal-to-noise ratio on thingiverse for figurines seems to be terrible, so much of it is low-poly or has hideous mesh errors.
