Im losing detail on my prints and im wondering if its just over exposure? Im doing 60 second bottom layer with 8 layers and 10 second layers for the rest. Im using violet plant based resin. Should I change exposure? If anyone has their complete settings they use for violet plant base resin, please post.

Try 8 seconds at 0.025 layer height. I find most of the resins I've tried an 8 second exposure gives the best results. I've tried as low as 6 second but tend to get more cases of supports not connecting to the model and so partial print failure. 7 second exposure is half way between - less failures than 6 second but still some.

Daniel Kelly I’d agree with trying 8 second exposure, but not with a .025 layer height. It’s best to do layer heights in .01 increments, as that’s what the machine handles best. Just try the new exposure time with whatever layer height you’re at now and see what results you get.

Also would love to know where you got these rats. Loving the variety of body and tail positions.

Sam Applegarth I keep hearing this about the increments but I don't understand where it comes from. I've been printing commercially at 0.25 for years without any issues.

Its interesting that there isnt any documentation etc about this issue...

The Z step motor steps in .010mm increments. If you have a .xx5 layer height, the motor has to micro step. That has inconsistent results. It basically guesses where the half step is, and that's what you get. better to use .xx0 layer heights.

Daniel Kelly
2020-03-25 06:40:19

Fred Bey please don't take this as me being funny or anything but I'm hearing this a lot, but never with any scientific or technical evidence. I've been printing at 0.025 micron layers since 2016 and what I'm seeing doesn't show any sign of issues (as ide from where I'm experimenting with cure times or I've tried to shortcut supports). My first 3d printer has a number of layer height presets to select and the one I used for the best balance of time Vs quality was 0.025. I've stuck with it ever since, even on other printers and have to date had no issues with layer lines being visible or printing anomalies or anything.

Fred Bey
2020-03-25 06:46:48

Can't speak to any other printers you've been using since 2016, but the photon Z stepper motor steps in .010mm increments. You can certainly get motors that step in smaller increments, but the photon is a budget printer.

If it works for you, keep at it. Probably hard to see when your layer is .023 or .028, but it's more than likely happening.

2020-03-25 09:02:10

i've been running .02 layers at 6 seconds with a lot of success and getting crip details but i do have to take some time making sure the supports are correct. I will normally anchor the model with a few medium supports then use the thin for everything else.

Zachary T Maheu ahh. Okay i may try that as well

Quick question. My print is going to be done in about an hour but i have to go to work. My print will be done and sitting in my anycubic for about 12 hours before I get back to it. Will this be a problem its just sitting there for 12 hours?

It will be just fine, don't worry.

Jared Allen
2020-03-24 06:31:50

Yeah, I frequently set prints which finish after I have gone to sleep, they are perfectly fine

Brendan Wood
2020-03-24 06:48:23

That will give it an ample amount of time to finish dripping excess resin that would otherwise be washed away.

I have a print that’s been done for like 2 months lol I’m not worried about it at all

Cory Lautzenheiser I just get lazy honestly . I have so many other hobbies that I just get caught up with other stuff then I’ll see something 3d printing related and I’ll get all excited about it and continue where I left off lol

Cory, I leave prints on the plate all the time, for hours with no problem. They only thing I would be worried about would be if sunlight was shining on it.

Fellow Photon users. I have currently been using anycubic gray resin a d got my setting dialed in pretty good. I am switching to the Anycubic plant based PURPLE resin very soon for reasons. Anyone that uses the plant based resin, could you tell me what settings i.e. exposure times and so on, that you personally use with the plant based resin to get great results? Pictures with plant based resin prints would be nice as well. Thanks in advance!

I have used their plan based grey. I dont have any pics at the moment, but i didn't notice any detail differences. It certainly smells a lot better though

Hello all, so i just ordered the Anycubic plant based resin BLUE. I did this because the Anycubic Gray was irritating my family too much. It’s on its way to me. My printer is in my house and next to a window. I have a couple of questions from anyone on here that uses the Anycubic Plant based BLUE in particular.
1. Could you show me some of your prints with plant based resin to show off detail?
2. Would you say the smell/toxic fumes are little to none?
3. Have you found an even better/less toxic alternative?
4. Do you have any comments or suggestions for me before i receive this product and start printing?

Anyone ever printed a cup coaster on photon resin printer? I have tilted it 45 degrees and added a ton of supports. But i have never printed anything so large and flat with resin printer. Anyone see a problem with this besides it using a ton of resin?link to coaster

Not sure if I’m asking this question correctly but here goes. I just got my regular photon machine and made my first print with the anycubic gray resin. The first print i did turned out good but im wondering if it could be better. What exposure times should i be using for the layers? Heres pics of my first prints? Any general tips are appreciated for this newbie.
