Hoping this will do the trick instead of IPA, should be a little better than hot soapy water.
Denlee Paddy Rhodes 2020-04-03 02:56:08
Let us know how that goes! ? ❓
Heractio Cane 2020-04-03 03:17:32
Following ?
Dyson Gibson 2020-04-03 03:49:24
I’m using fabuloso in place of IPA getting ok results not great but not bad
Richard Tyler Jr 2020-04-03 06:36:46
Anycubic recommends ethanol to clean their resins. Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol with some methanol added. Some denatured has acetone and few other things in small amounts.
Mike Fatchett 2020-04-03 08:06:10
Try windshield washing fluid.

Been a successful weekend printing my own characters. Just a couple of questions, cutting supports with pliers not great as it still leaves slight rough patches, I guess you might sand down or just use IPA to wash away supports? Also you might be able to see there’s a bit of warping on the feet, is this because the base is already curing? I’ve upped bottom layer exposure to 80s for the first 12 layers and upped normal exposure to 20s, means it takes longer but worth it as it’s working really well.
John Simpson 2020-03-30 19:18:29
I’ve found that a soak in hot water after your ipa wash and rinse softens the supports an they just come right off.
Jan Chessy Cesak 2020-03-30 19:23:56
gonna try that
John Simpson 2020-03-30 19:24:34
Jan Chessy Cesak it can make your prints a little cloudy but I prime all mine. ?
Jan Chessy Cesak 2020-03-30 19:24:47
John Simpson yop, same here
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-30 19:51:17
John Simpson I don’t actually have IPA at present so just been using hot soapy water, it does soften but still leaves hard bits right on the object itself. I’m sure I’ll find other ways, all trial and error.
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-30 19:51:51
John Simpson that it does, but not a problem for a prototype.
Revin Leong 2020-03-30 20:36:31
Based on the photos it looks like u could just print it flat without supports.
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-30 20:54:39
Revin Leong might try without supports, do you mean flat vertically or horizontally?
Revin Leong 2020-03-30 20:58:32
Daniel Weatherhead you could try both ways. Do check with the slicers auto supports to verify if u really need supports.
Jeff Lee 2020-03-30 21:53:19
John Simpson Is there a way to reduce or eliminate the cloudiness? Just printed something in clear resin overnight; I was hoping the hot water trick would let me get the supports off cleanly, but if it's going to impact the clarity, maybe I'd better look for a different method.
John Simpson 2020-03-31 01:28:10
Jeff Lee I’m not sure to be honest, I’m still very much a newbie myself.
Richard Tyler Jr 2020-03-31 08:44:24
There are side cutting, flush nippers used strictly for plastic models that work well
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-27 04:48:55
Not sure what happened at the end but as you can see I’ve managed to print my first, designed by me, print. Took a little time to cut away tiny supports with the pliers. The only thing I’m not sure is the uv light, I think, seems to have dulled it, was crystal clear when I took it off. Love it when a print works. ?
Josh Berkley 2020-03-27 15:12:38
The clear-ness you are seeing is the uncured resin filling in the tiny layer lines that refract light. You can get some of that back by clear coating your clear prints. It would even better if they're flat and you can sand then clear coat
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-26 02:44:06
Tried my own design for the 1st time, failed. Strangely the bottom of the raft stayed on the build plate but as soon as it began building the supports they remained in the vat, I used Chitubox and put on automatic supports so would have expected it to work. I can upload an image of what I was trying to print.
Josh Berkley 2020-03-26 06:11:22
Your orientation is too horizontal and got stuck to the FEP. I would try no more than 30° off of normal (90°)
Josh Berkley 2020-03-26 06:11:54
A wide flat part like that has too much surface area and when the supports thin out they run risk of pulling off the plate
Brad Thomson 2020-03-26 07:27:43
auto supports are worthless, never trust em
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-23 06:28:45
Quick question for you all. How do you dispose of your resin waste as in tissues, gloves anything like that. I’m guessing you have a separate bin and then take that bin to a recycling centre to the chemical part?
Fred Bey 2020-03-23 06:46:31
I have a plastic box any resin contaminated stuff goes into. When it's about halfway full, and it's sunny, it gets set outside. Then I mix it up a bit so the sun hits everything for a while. Then I just toss it in the normal trash.
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-23 06:49:51
Fred Bey that’s a good idea, think I’ll try that.
Stefan Giudici 2020-03-23 06:55:19
I take everything to the hazmat disposal site once a year or so
Jeremy Babcock 2020-03-23 07:01:38
That’s great to bring up the tissues. Been wondering what everyone does with theres ?♂️
Phez Darryn Stanmore 2020-03-23 16:07:56
Lots of sun light, turning it every now and then like tilling a field crop. Once it's all set I bag it and put it in the bin
Ben Fairbank 2020-03-23 21:29:42
I set it under my cure light for a day and throw it away.
Russell Beer 2020-03-23 22:49:49
Burn them!
Christopher Fugate 2020-03-24 02:43:55
The stuff is harmless when cured. Just set your tissues and the like out in the sun, let it cure, then toss in trash.
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-23 03:34:52
2nd attempt finished and looking really good, I know it’s only the test print but it’s only my 2nd day with the Anycubic Photon. Again thanks for your words of wisdom. Post printing left in warm soapy water for a few minutes whilst putting the resin back and then cured in uv light for a couple of minutes, not perfect but decent start, now onto my own designs.
Richard Arris 2020-03-23 03:49:04
What did you clean the vat with now we can’t get IPA?
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-23 03:52:36
Most of the resin was poured out so just used a tissue to wipe and warm soapy (fairy liquid) water again with a tissue to wipe clean now left to dry.
Josh Deane 2020-03-23 04:19:17
Thank God I had already bought about 10 large bottles beck when I first got my printer. Still have 5 left
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-22 21:24:25
So it’s looking like it’s working this time, quickly paused at roughly the same time as yesterday and there looks like a print on the build plate. Certainly an improvement from yesterday. Relevelled the plate, updated the firmware and set the bottom exposure to 80s so thanks to everyone for your tips yesterday, I know it hasn’t finished yet so touchwood. The irony would be pausing and restarting the print messes it up.
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-21 22:02:07
Not really a shock, checked first print nothing on the plate. These first prints should work without fail. I’ve warmed up the room, I paused it at about 6% to take a look, is there something that can be done to the plate to make it stick, rub something on it perhaps?
Peter Csaki 2020-03-21 22:04:39
Level it properly. + read the FAQ.
Rok Petrič 2020-03-21 22:05:06
what are you printing
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-21 22:05:48
Rok Petrič the lattice test print.
Michael Van Fossen 2020-03-21 22:08:14
I sanded my build plate a bit with high grit paper like 1000 or so, but really it came down to bottom exposure time and ensuring it was properly zero'd.
Jean-François Meloche 2020-03-21 22:08:59
95% of the time its a leveling issue.
Jean-François Meloche 2020-03-21 22:10:54
I have a somewhat unorthodox way of leveling, loosen the build plate, remove the vat, home, down 5 x 1mm, tighten, up .1mm x 5, z=0, get it back up and put the vat back. (Dont forget to tighten it.)
Nathan Kopp 2020-03-21 22:11:22
never over fill either, if that ball joint gets resin in it, it will never level properly and will require a good cleaning
Josh Deane 2020-03-21 22:12:10
Had perfect prints since day one. Reason? I spent a LOT of time getting it leveled.
Rok Petrič 2020-03-21 22:13:18
is anything on fep?
Ben Gulick 2020-03-21 22:13:45
Update your firmware if you haven't, make sure your plate is clean and dry before every print, relevel and then double check you tightened the plate fully after leveling. That solved all of my problems
Brendan Wood 2020-03-21 22:13:47
I had the same issue and no amount of releveling worked. So I increased the base exposure time and bam, perfect prints.
Steven Howland 2020-03-21 22:15:08
Level the bed
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-21 22:17:31
Not even a hint of it taking to the plate
Revin Leong 2020-03-21 22:19:42
In this case, it's most likely your leveling, might be too high. Try this method https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K4G6ExEtk70
Ben Fairbank 2020-03-21 22:30:48
Make sure you clean your vat before trying again.
Rigo Arevalo 2020-03-21 22:34:59
The fest print has the setting perfect for printing, if it failed the bed probably isn’t level
Paul Dodd 2020-03-21 22:42:05
Michael Van Fossen I’ve seen people with slightly warped plates, so much so you couldn’t see it with your eyes alone
Michael Van Fossen 2020-03-21 22:55:16
Paul Dodd I agree with you. I took mine and laid down the sandpaper on a known flat and level surface and sanded mine from there to what I think is a good surface.
Daniel Prows 2020-03-21 22:56:08
Just a note, how far down you need to go for z=0 depends on the machine. Small variation in where the home sensor is affects it. I’ve written down where it is on my machines, and they’re all different
Jayson Stewart 2020-03-21 22:56:16
Your first layers need a longer exposure time. I usually run 8 layers at 80 seconds exposure for the first layers. That foundation is crucial
Daniel Prows 2020-03-21 22:58:42
as others have mentioned, when you leveled, your z=0 was too high up. It is unfortunate that Anycubic doesn’t set it at the factory like epax does
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-21 22:59:19
It was an absolute disaster a lot of resin has stuck to the build plate, had to use a metal screwdriver to get that of, so it’s very scratched now, the plastic you get was rubbish and the filter for the unused resin just leaked out all over the workshop, not exactly an enjoyable experience so far.
Jean-François Meloche 2020-03-21 22:59:22
Daniel Prows Gotcha, makes sense.
Chris Rees 2020-03-21 23:03:32
Scratches are fine, but the plastic spatula should definitely be replaced with a plastic razor or metal spatula. The leaking in the filters is usually from over filling them or keeping them too close to the bottle
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-21 23:07:21
Chris Rees I kind of used it like a funnel so sort of held it too close I think. Won’t do that again.
Chris Rees 2020-03-21 23:17:55
That was the problem I had when I started, too. I think the mesh sits just above the top of the bottle and causes all sorts of problems
Bob Deblier 2020-03-21 23:19:02
Terrible advice. Your FEP is 0.15mm thick so if you go up 0.5mm, you'll end up 0.35mm too high.
Jean-François Meloche 2020-03-21 23:19:44
Bob Deblier Works for me flawlessly.
Dcmac 2020-03-21 23:42:47
I followed the instructions on the bottle. It told me what to set the base exposed to
Andrew Smith 2020-03-22 00:38:11
I went with the spreadsheet exposure times and haven’t had a failed print yet. I know my print is going to succeed because I hear that first pop when the first layer is done curing.
Fred Bey 2020-03-22 06:52:43
Home position is set by a small clip on the back. Not everyone's home will be in the same spot. What works for YOUR machine isn't universal.
John Seraiocco 2020-03-22 10:46:58
Use a hairdryer for 30 second on the plate it will warm it
John Seraiocco 2020-03-22 10:49:42
Most the time hairdryer fix it or re calibrate your plate sometime while removing print we change the position of the plate
Kirk Sturgulewski 2020-03-22 12:57:47
what is your exsposure for the first few layers I always set mine to 50s have never has a issue
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-22 18:22:55
Kirk Sturgulewski I’ve upped the bottom layer to 80 seconds, hoping that makes a difference.
Christopher Fugate 2020-03-23 23:08:23
When I was having repeated failures, it turned out to be a spacing issue with my bed. Use the Flint Reed method, and raise by 0.1mm, thats what fixed it for me. As in, Home it with the vat in, go down until it gets hard to twist, tighten the bed, then move it up 0.1mm and set that as 0.
原文網址 Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-19 16:26:59
I have now bought the Anycubic Photon and it’s sat in the cold workshop, hopefully that won’t be an issue but straight away I have a few worries. This is actually my 1st 3d printer ever, gone straight to resin. The usb stick I thought had some .stl files, they’re not on it as I tried to load one on to Chitubox, the other issue is the lid feels loose at the back, I think I’ve tightened but the part that worries me most is the windows are opaque I thought I was supposed to be able to see what’s happening. I worry that I’ve got a counterfeit one. What do you think?

So I’m finally ordering my photon today, what else apart from resin do I need to get started that isn’t included in the box? I’m in the UK so I would assume our sunlight isn’t the best source for curing? Thanks Dan
John Nash 2020-03-17 20:52:18
UV light source, IPA or some other cleaner, and a decent way of getting prints off the plate, Nitrile gloves and a mask
Fizzy FizzleMack 2020-03-17 20:54:52
This above! As well as a good source of fume extraction. I'd suggest an inline fan and a carbon filter :) your body will Defo thank you later
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-17 20:59:00
Thanks very much.
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-17 21:06:04
Fizzy FizzleMack it will be in a workshop which is pretty much a garage so is pretty cold or would that not be enough of an extractor?
Nathan Fairclough 2020-03-17 21:23:07
I'm in the UK and went for these bits.
Nathan Fairclough 2020-03-17 21:23:12
Mike Hamilton 2020-03-17 21:40:44
Plenty of kitchen roll, long bladed craft knife, modelling files, sandpaper, filler, primer, paints and bucket loads of patience.
Fizzy FizzleMack 2020-03-17 21:55:36
I wouldn't risk it bud. First try a print in the garage. Post printing if you can smell the resin. Then I'd suggest the above what I've mentioned pal. Rather be safe than sorry dude ??
Stuart Johnson 2020-03-17 21:57:46
I picked up the 24w (dual) uv led strips to cure stuff, then attached them around a cooking pot from wilko. Works a treat
Fizzy FizzleMack 2020-03-17 22:02:28
Stuart Johnson any chance you can link the UV led strip?
Stuart Johnson 2020-03-17 22:12:58

Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-17 22:18:42
Stuart Johnson sorry you were asking fizzy. ?
Stuart Johnson 2020-03-17 22:19:03
Aye ;)
Neal Conway 2020-03-17 22:45:08
Daniel Weatherhead I've got mine in me room, using the Anycubic Basic Grey, without all that gubbins and I've not noted it to be particularly smelly or noxious but I AM a smoker so that may be a factor. I found the nastiest bit of it is the cleaning a fter the print. I'm using Meth's for the Basic Clean followed by the IPA and that lot stinks to high heaven. Also, if your garage is too cold the Resin may not be as 'responsive' or as 'fluid' as is required. (Couldn't think of better words) Might be worth investing in a heater for that area.
Daniel Weatherhead 2020-03-17 22:59:46
Neal Conway Thanks a lot. Very useful.
Keith Yinger 2020-03-17 23:05:29
The most basic thing you'll need is isopropyl alcohol or something to clean your prints off when they're done. As far as not enough Sunshine it doesn't really take very much. I set my prints on the windowsill and even on a cloudy day they still cure. T hat will at least get you started printing. Eventually you'll probably want to get more rubber gloves and paint filters. But basically with just some alcohol to clean your prints off when you're done you can get started printing. UV curing stations, fume extraction and all of that stuff are kind of optional and whatever you prefer on that. I live in a tiny home so the best spot for my printer was behind the toilet on a Shelf. I don't hardly notice any smell from it at all unless I'm sitting right there next to it watching it.
Fizzy FizzleMack 2020-03-18 15:29:06
Haha not a problem Dan and yes I and from the UK Stuart. Cheers for the link dude ??
