Does anybody know if the vat in the wash/cute machine would hold up to acetone instead of IPA? Anyone try this? I ordered one which will hopefully arrive shortly, but recently switched to acetone due to the shortage. I love the way acetone works but don't want to ruin my new device.

Acetone maybe not... But it's an easy comparative, if the fluid is held in "plastic" containers or only in glass containers.... that pretty much is a give-away...
If it's glass only containers, don't put it in.
If it's in plastic, you just need to figu re out what kind of plastic the container is.

(I know for a fact that the containers for Bleach are the same type of plastic you can use to keep gasoil/diesel in.... which you can not keep in Soda-bottles.)

Though I know for a fact that "methylated spirits" can be used to clean and can be put in the container for at least 4 weeks without issues.

Warning label on the lid does say something about ethyl alcohol.... (Ethanol)

Hey everyone, I just got a zero and it is churning out awesome prints. But every time I run one when it goes to home position it grinds as if it wants to keep going, despite me setting the z=0 several times. I had this issue upon initial setup as well. It seems to cooperate for one or two prints then try to destroy my screen again. Any thoughts? Anyone run into this?

dont start a print and cancel it while homing
and dont stop homing if u pres home

for some reason it wont home after that and just go down

Mario Hippmann so every time I cancel it doing anything I just reset the z axis zero?

The home position is set by an optical sensor. You can see it at the back and it has an LED indicator, so might be worth checking it is triggering properly, as it is easy to check and costs nothing.

Niall Forrester
2020-04-03 17:42:44

There is a metal tab that moves with the build plate - the tab triggers the sensor as the build plate moves down into home position

I have a universal workspace that's indoors (not in a garage) and I'm sure many others do as well. I wanted to share my airbrushing solution! I made this booth from one sheet of foam board, $3 at any craft store or wall Mart. Just measured, cut with an xacto, and glued with Elmer's using clamps and toothpicks to pin it. I've made more sophisticated ones with a shield cover made from the plastic from one of those cheap picture frames at wal Mart, a light and a fan to suction fumes. Now I have that clip fan and my desk lamp.

Kevin Lems
2020-03-31 17:27:49

Looking good ?? but how do you get rid of the fumes? Cause a ventilator isn't really taking away the fumes, right? It just blows them somewhere else ?

罗西晟
2020-03-31 18:35:58

As Kevin Lems said... the fan just blows the fumes elsewhere.
And actually could be a bad thing for you, if it doesn't go out the window directly.... since all the "overspray" that gets swept away by the fan now settles somewhere else.... for example your on furniture...

-edit: I know for sure as my "airbrush station" was set up somewhat similar.

Josh Berkley
2020-03-31 22:46:09

I sit next to a window! In the past I have done a small fan flipped around so it blows out of my box that was fully enclosed. Then on the outside of the box I got a downspout extender that I could stretch and retract and I'd bend it out the window. I also don't have any nice furniture near my desk so as long as it's blown away from my TV toward the window I don't care much

Now that the clear coat is dry and much more resin/IPA has drained from the cavities here is how the print from my tutorial video turned out! You can see some air bubbles but overall I think it's very nice. Next I'll be looking for a nice way to backlight them to get that reflectance you're seeing in this photo from my monitor light

Good idea but how much resin would you need to save to make up for the print? Also a little worried as resin can break easily, unless of course this is to be printed on an fdm printer. Nice idea though.

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:43:53

Stevo Hill you're very right I just got lazy and didn't want to cut threads. But the knob screw is an M6 for anyone interested. I figure that the last bits of a bottle won't be too messy if the spill ?

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:44:41

Justin Lincoln you're very right I just got lazy and didn't want to cut a threaded hole, I'll accept the ramifications ? but the bottle I used to demo is half full, and I figure if you're draining it there isn't much left anyway

Justin Lincoln
2020-03-24 10:45:44

Josh Berkley I might honestly use this to just siphon bottles into other bottles, for when I finally make my "Franken" Resin

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:45:47

Shawn O'Hara I printed in SLA so I didn't have to use supports and for a more accurate fit on the post. But all ears on that suggestion either way as I do have an FDM printer (that needs tinkering to run again)

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:46:39

Colin Hughes I printed it on my SLA machine. After curing it's quite strong. The large bottle in the photo is about half full. If you're using this I imagine there isn't much left in the bottle at all so very light

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:47:06

Robert Maefs my FDM printer is currently down and I'm impatient. That's about the gist of it haha

Joe Tacconelli

As log as its not the last of your first bottle :p

Thanks love the idea

Shawn O'Hara
2020-03-24 10:50:46

Josh Berkley Fair. I can tell it's resin and looks super clean, but I think this application is more suited to FDM overall. Cheaper, arguably faster but that's pretty moot. I'd think it has less of a chance to break than resin, but again, depends on the resin vs the weight of the bottle.

Anyways, the suggestion is that for those who want to print in FDM, the bottom should be totally flat. It might already be, but I can't tell if it tapers upwards from the mount to the disc or not. Printing in FDM in the orientation it's designed to function in will give the largest cross section of layers and therefore be strongest in that orientation during the printing.

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 10:56:13

Shawn O'Hara that makes total sense. Being that I printed in resin I wasn't so concerned about horizontal and more about vertical continuity, so I designed only considering that. It does in fact taper upward slightly

2020-03-24 11:04:14

Josh Berkley I'm interested in the wash and cure as well in the future but kinda already spent all my tax money lol. Then someone mentioned something about the new Zero and at first i wasn't interested but when i got a $70 off coupon i got more interested and it left me money to buy something else I've been wanting for a while (ps4 with spiderman and the new ff7 remake)

Josh Berkley

Dávid Pelyva
2020-03-24 18:58:39

You should have added a small twist to it, that way the resin would gather to one point and fall easier.

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 20:09:37

Dávid Pelyva not a bad idea, what I have been doing is just offsetting the bottle in the ring, the is actually a concave lip around the inside that allows you to do so

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 20:11:52

Hobbie Gus Gus the only time you'd be draining in this manner would be to ensure you're using an entire bottle at it's end when there isn't much left. Why would you put such a small amount in a second container when you can just utilize it in the machine

Hobbie Gus Gus
2020-03-24 23:05:38

Josh Berkley I just collect the remaining into 1 bottle. Since I use enough of the same resin, it works for me. I have 7 machines running 24/7.

Paul West
2020-03-24 23:22:21

Josh Berkley because you can fill your vat and start a new print, then use this to get every last drop into your newly opened bottle. You don't have to do it into an empty bottle. That's just silly.

And the best part is, you aren't losing print time. I didn't spend $200 or more for a bottle drip stand... I spent the money for a 3D printer.

Hobbie Gus Gus
2020-03-25 00:01:56

Paul West To each his own, I don't have time to wait for a bottle to drip empty. Time is money and I start prints ASAP to fill orders.

Paul West
2020-03-25 00:03:00

Hobbie Gus Gus I'm with you 100%... I think hanging it on the printer is just plain silly. Thankfully, what others choose to do with their printer(s) doesn't impact what I do with mine.

I can't really tell what the shape inside is. Is it much clearer in person? I'm imagining the possibilities myself

Christopher King hard to photograph, but it is a dinosaur skull. Also the mandible did not develop quite right. I didn't allocate proper drainage to that section. Hopefully with the description you can see better!

Martin Girón yes but my first run didn't turn out as I hoped. Back to the drawing board! Those skinny legs are a challenge

As the model continues to drain the rest develops even better. Hopefully this image is better!

Josh Berkley yeah i see it now. im considering the possibility of using this technique and fill the hollow with castable resin for potentially cool effects

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 14:01:42

i have considered the same! I have old diabetic insulin syringes I no longer use I was thinking of using to get into the small areas

I more impressed by your straight lines

No lines and nothing.... why ?

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 16:45:01

Chris Kölsch you'll see in the video which will be uploaded tomorrow, but I wet sand the surface using very fine grit sandpaper

Chris Kölsch
2020-03-24 16:46:45

Josh Berkley ok sanding
But still form bottom to top one straight line

Which my don’t makr

Josh Berkley

Chris Kölsch it's possible your z axis needs adjusting. Anycubic has a video on how to do so on their YouTube channel

You are a pioneer! For sure. I was wondering how long it’d take someone to figure this process out. At least similarly. Are you reverse cutting negative shapes out of a block then printing the form with the inside drainage system in place?

We had to d o that for some background piece for some prop. Giving the illusion of nothing inside of a resin thing people didn’t know you could just 3D print It so the wow factor was I guess overlooked. Because people didn’t know what they were looking at. Love anything with dinosaurs excellent work dude! Can’t wait to see ur tutorial. See if u did the same thing.

Josh Berkley
2020-03-24 17:17:48

Adil Muschelewicz the video will go into detail more but yes what I did was use meshmixer software to do a "Boolean difference" operation. So it takes the solid out of the block leaving a cavity

Francesco Ostili
2020-03-24 17:32:28

did you print flat to the buildplate?
Amazing how we can't see no artifacts or so :O

Adil Muschelewicz
2020-03-24 17:43:29

Josh Berkley yep zbrush never called or boolean but maya and blender and cinema 4d did. NOW zbrush has live boolean but we had to use the merge down and dynameash with the boolenian icon to click over the layer. Thinking with resin is where these kids need to go! So definitely let people know they can use other programs to achieve an inverse cut like that. Meshmixwer is nice to use as well. Power on Duder pants!

How to get this sub-surface model from photo?? And what is this process named like?

Adil Muschelewicz
2020-03-24 20:08:02

Hamza Bavčić you wouldn’t get it from a photo you’d take a 3D scan and stick it in the cube think backwards or just wait for the tutorial because he said he’s making one

Christopher Fugate
2020-03-24 22:01:47

Its a negative print. The feature inside is empty space, and the area around it is solid resin.

Jason Saiter
2020-03-24 22:10:49

Christopher Fugate is it a software tool?

Devin Wallace Simonsen
2020-03-24 22:15:31

Jason Saiter you can do negatives in inventor and similar quite easily

inventor is free for students and similar

Devin Wallace Simonsen
2020-03-24 22:31:09

this could be done with a casting resin with a little dye (if you don't mix the colour in well enough you get a more realistic transparancy)

Justin Ragsdale
2020-03-24 22:51:09

You can do negatives in 3D builder on Windows as well. Just do a subtraction in a block the size you need and the model will be removed from the interior. ?

Dennis Barr
2020-03-24 23:42:53

All correct! I use meshmixer as it is just a preference thing. I have a video currently uploading to YouTube. I will make a new post with a link when it's done. I have a slow connection it seems
