Okay, so no rocket science and magic unicorns inside a Wash & Cure station. ?

I guess it's technically possible to make it with some quiet stepper driver. Until then - let it be Noctua!

only 4 leds?... And 0 turbine, only fans? :D :D :D for what we pay?

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-01 00:43:16

Michal Powierza these are button LEDs, for curing there's more

Michal Powierza

Oleksandr Panforov Thats why there's a springs :D

Too bad the cure/wash function (order) seems to be "hard-coded" in the chip
Would'v wanted to be "wash & cure" rather than "cure & wash"...
Have to remember to switch to Wash mode when switching it on.

Kempster Kevin
2020-04-01 13:06:29

I had the same thought, I think that was done because if you accidentally start a wash cycle with the cure plate on it would be bad. Like flinging the plate and everything on it at high speeds.

罗西晟
2020-04-01 14:44:20

Makes sense... Though that could'v easily been prevented by having some sort of sensor in place.

Only that would up the BOM and make it "more expensive" in building...

I feel the Cover sensor is partly use-less...
As, in wash, you don't want to splash it over the container anyway....

And with Cure, you know you are blasting UV-Light, so to keep it away from uncured resin you don't want to cure....

Meh, maybe If I'm annoyed by this enough I'll see if I can find any UART or JTAG lines to the motherboard or something of the alike to see if I can change the code order.

So I was curious to make Photon Zero quieter, cause that's my only issue with this marvelous little machine by now. Thought inside pictures could be useful for those planning to purchase one. Just look at the simplicity!

Any suggestions on quiet blower fan replacement?

P.S. Next stop - Wash & Cure internals ?

Nicolas Tsagarides
2020-03-31 17:49:47

Usually (but not always) quieter fans means less airflow

Justin Cupitt
2020-03-31 18:18:55

Possibly a high end pc fan

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-31 18:21:13

Nicolas Tsagarides indeed, it is. Though it could be compensated via bigger fan blades, their count, fan diameter, etc.
As for me the main concern is the noise, even for the price of a slightly shorter printer lifespan.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-31 18:22:40

Justin Cupitt for the bottom fan it's Noctua for sure. Trouble is with the angled, for lack of a better term, fan.

Alexander Bayerdorffer
2020-03-31 22:42:53

Noctuas

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-31 22:51:12

Alexander Bayerdorffer sure, but look at the pictures. There's a fan with side blower

Alexander Bayerdorffer
2020-03-31 22:51:38

That's a bit more intersting

Alexander Bayerdorffer
2020-03-31 22:51:43

Not sure at this time

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-31 22:53:17

Alexander Bayerdorffer if anything comes by - would be grateful for any hints

Alexandre Gilbert
2020-04-01 04:06:42

Unless you want to change your LCD and/or LED element very regularly, the noise is probably not that much of a concern.
If you ever had a projector, you will know the LEDs produce an insane amount of heat.
"There is no replacement for displacement" and unfortunately moving a lot of air makes a lot of noise.
Technically you could setup a watercooling loop, with a large radiator and fans. the added surface area would compensate for the reduced flow.
But double the size of the machine...

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-01 05:23:29

Alexandre Gilbert I do realize the possible equipment wear, and heat dissipation requirements.
Also, I understand that all the parts are there for a good reason.

My point is, if it's quieter at most for a couple of dBs - it's worth a couple less hours of operation. Of course, that'd be solely valid for my case.

Alexandre Gilbert
2020-04-01 05:25:37

Well if you are up to it, building a small watercooling setup lets you move high amounts of heat to a radiator where you can run a large 120mm or 140mm fan that is in an other league of quiet compared to a blower fan. Making the heat blocks will be the hardest part.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-01 05:27:57

Alexandre Gilbert no, I mean, quieter fans, like Noctua. That'd be cheaper and faster at the moment. Besides, I made similar conversion on my Photon S, and is very happy with that for about half a year now.

Your idea is awesome, and I'd surely like to try that some time.

Alexandre Gilbert
2020-04-01 05:29:50

I have used noctua fans for years. They are quiet, but usually move 1/3 to 1/2 the volume of air. That's why they are quiet.
A computer throttles down when it overheats. As much as I love them for PSU and other sub-100W systems, I can't see them being efficient in a projector-style system that needs to dissipate 200-300W or risk damaging components.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-01 05:31:20

Alexandre Gilbert that's why I took 120mm in place of 80mm for the Photon S.

Surely, that's not a direct replacement, yet it allows to print at night

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-04-01 05:32:31

Alexandre Gilbert just to be clear - it's only me experience, and the choice made in a complicated trade-off between two system properties, equally significant, yet differently prioritized

Charles Davenport
2020-04-01 06:37:13

So, it's that blower fan that causes all the noise. I thought the machine was falling apart. Have you tried isolation mounts? I have to fix the LCD screen so the machine will have to be dismantled. Thanks for the heads up!

So, there's no need to pick one of eight, but is it considered a valid result?

File from stock stick, RERF on Photon Zero.

所以, 沒有必要從八個中選一個, 但它被認為是有效的結果嗎?

來自stock stick的檔案, rerf在光子零.

Did 7 not print?

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 01:50:07

Oksana Shevchenko they were fine at the first layers with high exposure, yet later on sticked to the FEP.

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:52:01

That is interesting. First thought is obviously, it the plate level. Second is .. there might be demons in your machine...

How do you know the first layers were fine? I can't tell for a few hours.

Also, what are your settings

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:52:43

Is the resin you're using compatible with the settings

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 01:54:55

Oksana Shevchenko I paused after layers with high exposure (first five), then resumed.

Settings are from the stock stick, as well as the file. So, can't be sure.

First time using such test, before was randomly adjusting settings based on the table with settings. Was great with Photon S ?

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:55:37

Oleksandr Panforov ah ok. Try again without pausing? I have a horrid fear of that. Lolol

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:56:09

It's weird that it would unstick after

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 01:56:22

Oksana Shevchenko sure pausing is ok, it even worked with miniatures without a seam

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:57:13

Oleksandr Panforov I can't possibly think of what it could be then.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 01:58:57

Oksana Shevchenko I'll try to re-level the bed and drop some actual sliced file.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Have you tried Photon Zero? Any tips?

Oksana Shevchenko
2020-03-30 01:59:53

Oleksandr Panforov I haven't. I'm pretty new to this whole mess as it is. I get really weird issues myself.

John Bkly
2020-03-30 02:19:30

Yeah, I printed the sample file for the photon I just got a month ago. The same one. It actually printed all 8 but then when I tried to print something else, it stuck to the FEP. I did do the firmware update and I level the bed and tune the FEP to 3 10 to 333 hz using the Spectrum phone app and that seems to help a bit. Though my last print did have one of the three ball turrets I was printing stick to the FEP rather than the build plate.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 02:20:31

John Bkly could you please elaborate more on the FEP tune process?
Never heard of it before

John Bkly
2020-03-30 02:22:15

Just follow the tuning part of the video. Though I have it book marked for when I will eventually need to replace the FEP

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-30 02:43:22

I got the Photon Zero and AnyCubic Black resin, but I have not yet tried the rerf file that came with it. The AnyCubic cube test print failed on me 2/2 tries, so I've just been doing my own slicing settings.

Robin Stiller
2020-03-30 03:46:11

I love my zero, yeah I get a failure every now and then, but I attribute that to being a resin noob , I would say try releveling, I followed the quick start sheet to a t

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 04:04:25

Jonathan Basseri I also have some Anycubic black. Could you share your settings?

Also, is there a some sort of table with settings, like for the Photon and Photon S?

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 04:04:43

Great, thanks a lot

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-30 04:43:21

Oleksandr Panforov I have yet to see much data for the photon zero since it's so new.

I'm still a resin printing noob, so I know my settings are not great. 0.05 layers with 8 second exposure seems okay, but I think going to 0.03 layers with 5 or 6 seconds will be better. Yet to verify.

I also need to figure out anti aliasing

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-30 04:45:38

Jonathan Basseri I think painted it'll look glorious.

Sure thing, it's new, so we're like trailblazers here. Yay for us! ?

Jonathan Basseri
2020-03-30 05:31:47

Oleksandr Panforov ?

You have to look closely to see the voxels, but I saw much better prints from the Zero on 3D Printing Pro YouTube review.

It would be "Photron" defender of the Thingiverse.

Josh Ritter
2020-03-29 13:39:51

Oleksandr Panforov is it worth it? I want one but I don't know if it's worth the price when I just print minis.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-29 16:25:04

Josh Ritter I've used it once yesterday, and in 4 minutes I've got 8 minis cleaned and in another 4 minutes cured. That's faster than my process was before, and more importantly - much, much simpler and cleaner.

Oleksandr Panforov
2020-03-29 16:25:44

Josh Ritter I'd say this station is not necessary, but it's very convenient compared to not having it ?

Oleksandr Panforov

Fingerbib Roygbiv according to the internet it's lower, yet I hadn't tried it personally yet. Will run some comparison

Recently I've posted here about an issue with Chitubox displaying nothing in place of a buildplate, like on screenshot below.

Tried all of your helpful suggestions, yet failed miserably.

Today I've found out that removing folder at %userprofile%\AppData\Local\ChiTuBox

solves the issue, also removing all profiles.

So, making backup is a must, but the issue is solved!

I've got a request to print a heat resistant mold, capable of handling about 100 degrees Celsius.

I've tried using Anycubic Eco Orange, and it fails at about 80 degrees Celsius, after 10 uses or so.

Any suggestions on what resin to try for that application?

Rotating and clicking on the viewcube was of no help, as well as restarting Chitubox, computer, re-opening files and updating Chitubox.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Heroforge miniature - check.
Settings from the Excel sheet are great.

Still a bit confused with the supports placement, but miniature came out pretty good.

By the way, what is the proper way to separate the supports - before exposure or after?

Overengineering is strong with this one.

I'm running my printer in the living room, and fumes were never an option.

Mostly Thingiverse, a couple of custom parts. I'll give it a try and post those if they do work

UPD:
It's still smells close to the printer, mostly from below, where fan is located.
With window opened, it's pretty good.
